Chapter 1. Pilot

1.1. Dustin Brooks

The parade bands kept marching through the streets of Oceanside, a city in the county of San Diego.

Dustin Brooks had been sleeping for many hours straight. Now he was stabbed awake by sun rays accidentally spearing across the room, right into his corner.

It was the day of Independence, in the first third of Dustin’s summer break.

Dustin was a student at “Pacific Coast Academy”, an elitary boarding school located at the beach of Malibu, one of the dreamiest sites in the surroundings of restless metropole Los Angeles.

Summer break was one of the few occasions of the year to be with his parents. It used to pass by pretty soon.

This fall, Dustin would return for the fourth grade.

Unlike the years before, there were major changes ahead.

For the first time in history, “Pacific Coast Academy” would open its gates for girls.

Zoey Brooks, Dustin’s older sister by four years, would thus join him.

This was both good and bad.

Zoey loved Dustin to the death and was therefore totally overprotective.

Dustin feared to be totally smothered by Zoey’s care. But he had also missed her alot during the last two years.

Zoey’s transfer to Dustin’s school was not the only change.

Dustin was also admitted to the school’s mathletic team.

This was quite a move for his young age.

In order to prepare better, Dean Rivers, headmaster of “Pacific Coast Academy”, had arranged for him to vistit geometry classes with middle school kids.

Dustin was proud of this.

But there was some downside.

Teenagers could be really mean and envious towards brilliant kids of younger age.

Mrs. Brooks[mrs brooks] was thence worried.

Wasn’t there another way for Dustin to prepare for mathletic team?

Mr. Brooks[mr brooks] tried to think.

Indeed, Dustin had got some idea. But he hesitated.

That plan would have reduced his time to be spend at his parents’ during this summer even more.

Thus he hesitated strongly. But finally, he pushed himself into talking. “A summer camp for interested pupils would be cool.”

Mr. Brooks gasped. “Indeed, with only interested kids, that would totally rock.”

Zoey remarked, “Dustin, wouldn’t you feel all alone and lost there? Without someone to watch over you?” She could never hide her excruciating protectivity.

This had been the case even before Dustin’s birth.

Dustin growled, “I may vare for myself very well> I’m almost ten years old!”

Dad replied, “well, a camp is well-guarded and supervised by responsible teachers and advisers. It’s much like boarding school, just during the vacations.”

Mom toned them dowm. “We don’t know of any math camp. So that’s not much of an issue.”

Dustin, on the other hand, knew of one. “Firewire, one of our middle school geeks, has been to ‘Camp Geo’, two years ago.”

Of course, they needed further informations about Camp Geo.

They had to look it up on the interweb.

Dustin launched “zaplook”[zaplook]
, an interweb spider.

A few seconds later, the home site of the organisation behind Camp Geo showed up.

The pictures were not as nice as those from “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But, principally, there was a great similarity.

Indeed, the camp was located on the campus of another Californian boarding school or college, and not too far from Los Angeles.

But there was no beach nearby.

Dustin sighed for disappointment. He loved beaches to no end, especially warm and sandy ones. But he also like numbers and geometry a lot.

After a few discussions, the decision was made in favour of Camp Geo, especially due to the affordable tuition fees.

Zoey had already been to at leasy one significantly more expensive summer camp, down by the beach, complete with diving and surfing classes.

The music kept on playing.

The Brooks were finally ready for celebrating independence. They had moved to Oceanside from Lousiana[brooks and louisiana] and were accustomed to more pompous parades, such as Mardi Gras celebrations. Thus they did not want to miss out on the few occasions for a parade found here in San Diego.

Dad had been in a traditional brass band until their move to California.

Now the trombones were playing.

The banners were flying high.

Hooray! for the flag of the free,
Let it wave as our standard forever!
The gem of the land and the see,
The banner of the right.

Let despots remember the day
When our Fathers with mighty endeavour
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray

1.2. Departure

Getting Dustin admitted to the camp was not much of a problem.

Finally, Dustin Brooks was ready for the departure to Camp Geo.

Zoey had been taking care of stuffing his luggage. She was not only a greeat swimmer and diver, but a much greater fashion artist. She had sewed one pair of socks, one pair of trousers, and one top for each day for Dustin.

The little boy deemed this exaggerated.

Mom would never have thought of that.

But protesting was in vain.

Zoey was up to being a better mom for Dustin than their biological mother.

Dad had just prepared the car, a very cool convertible.

Zoey looked a bit sad. She had always been like this before impending departures of her little brother.

Dustin’s luggage was now much huger than himself, due to Zoey’s last-minute additions.

Dustin moaned. He jumped into the concertible and relaxed, looking forward to a more or less interesting camp.

Mr. Brooks started the engines of the vehicle.

Dustin waved again at mom and Zoey.

The car howled and made its way to the highway along the Californian coast.

1.3. Lauren Johnson[lauren johnson]

“Lulu” was a smart and cute elementary school girl from new York City.

Her favourite subject was mathematics.

She had recently won New York City’s mathletic contest for elementary school kids.

This victory earned her a scholarship for a sumer camp in california.

But she was still very young and a bit timid, also she could be binbioish at terms. Also, she had got a few misfit habits, such as chewing on the ends of her long black hair. Like many superintelligent girls, she had got a very short attention span.

But her rote memory was fantastic.

She was of Philippinian origin, like her afirementioned cousin Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert.

Since a few years, her best friend, almost like a sister, had been True Jackson, amn Afro-American girl remotely related to R. D. Jackson[rdjackson]
, member of fabulous casting show Amerika Sings[america sings]
.

True was very sad about not being with her best friend forever during the whole summer break.

Also, “Lulu”’s little brother was not happy about her departure for the summer camp. He still clang a lot to her.

Lauren had only decided to participate in the camp because of her elder cousin Wayne. She was proud of their Asiatic heritage. Granted, she did not always get along with that dork. But she could understand him, no matter what, in the important things. Alas, she was a bit scared by Wayne’s love for science fiction toon heroes.

Ryan Laserbeam, a good friend of “Lulu” and True, was addicted to video games featuring those heroes. He often dreamt of being “Superryan”.

That scared Lauren quite a bit.

But, after all, she had safely arrived in Los Angeles.

And Wayne was already here in order to help her along.

There were still a few hours left till the departure of the bus taking them and a bunch of other kids to “Camp Geo”.

Wayne bought an action figure at one of the airport shops.

Lauren was a bit dismayed by this. “That one really looks like my friend Ryan!”

Wayne just cackled.

The kids were now ready to enter the bus.

And off to the camp — their home for the following weeks — it was …

Chapter 2. The First Steps

2.1. Arrival

The gates of the camp had just been opened by custodian Robert Gordon[robert gordon]
.

The campus worker was usually occupied at “James K. Polk” school in Santa Clarita, a suburb of Los Angeles. But during the summer months, he took over various jobs in his field popping up hither and thither, every now and then. This week, he enjoyed this job at a summer camp.

This was like school, just taking place during the summer break.

Needless to say, Bob felt pretty much at home as can be. Unlike the kids at the camp, he was nowhere near interested in exploring the darker and more secret depths of geometry. He couldn’t even tell a circle from a triangle.

A few pupils from “Gordy”’s school had made it to the camp, too, such as Simon Nelson Cooke alias “Cookie” and Jennifer Mosely aka “Moze”.

But there were many other staff members.

The participants were not quite unlikely to turn hungry during the camp.

Thus there needed to be sort of a kitchen, kind of like a cafeteria.

There was one during the regular academic year, of course.

But its normal staff was on summer break, too.

Catering was thence necessary.

This year, this job was taken over for the first time by a Chinese service run by one Mrs. Lee[mrs lee].

For most of the year, Mrs. Lee was busy in her “Wok Star”. She was a very determinate and unscrupulous restaurant owner. She was keen on her board of fame, a segment of the inner restaurant’s wall displaying pictures of promintent people, usually Hollywood stars, having dined at “Wok Star”.

The methods for taking those pictures was very dubious.

But nobody could prove anything.

The dark secrets remained hidden deep withing Mrs. Lee’s black soul.

In any case, Mrs. Lee had made it to this camp because of her niece Evelyn Kwong, another participant from “James K. Polk”. She had also got a daughter named Daisy.

But the latter — younger than Dustin by one year — was too dumb for the camp. She helped in the kitchen, though.

The camp was organised by some board associated with California’s department for research and technology.

Some officials of this board were present in the camp, too. But they did not stay here over night. Alas, they were going to give the obligatory opening speech.

It was certainly going to be boring.

Most participants hated this part of the camp more than everything else.

The instructor of the camp was one hitherto unbeknownst Mr. Takato[takato]. Where was he coming from? He had claimed to be a math teacher at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But neither Dustin Brooks nor Wayne Gilbert would know him in any sense whatsoever.

Thus Mr. Takato was probably the darkest secret of “Camp Geo”.

Finally, the mass of kids arrived.

Many kids and staff members already wore labels with their name, identifying them as registered participants of the camp.

Dustin Brooks was dropped off by his father right at the entrance. He registered with some member of the staff.

Dad kissed him on the top of his head. “Be careful! See you in ten days!”

Dustin sighed. “Hug Zoey from me!”

Dad gerinned and replied, “OK, will do!”

They waved at each other and separated.

Dustin did not want his dad to follow him to the quarters. He wanted to appear as cool as can be in the eys of the other students, some of them being already at high school. He greeted them as they marched by.

A certain Phoebe Nachee[phoebe nachee]
ignored him completely.

Dustin did not understand that. He had never been unfriendly to them.

Moments passed in silence.

Suddenly, Dustin felt hidden by a backpack. He stumbled, staggered, and keeld over. But he thudded softly onto his own luggage.

Lauren stood there and gasped desperately. “Oops! Sorry!” She had got long, dark hair and looked like a perfect polynesian beauty.

Dustin stammered, “never mind!”

Wayne Gilbert showed up. “Lulu, your quarters are over there.” Then he saw Dustin Brooks cringing over his luggage.

Lauren sobbed. “I haven’t seen him.” She shrugged. “Lulu” suffered from deficitary short-term attention.

Wayne kept on cackling. But he did not forget to introduce Dustin and Lauren unto each other.

But then they had to separate again.

2.2. Dustin’s Quarter

Dustin entered his resicence. He sighed, thinking, “things always look better on fly papers and on the interweb than in reality.”

But there was not much of a reason to complain.

Just the difference to “Pacific Coast Academy” made him sob.

Instead of beds, there were thick matresses on the polished hardcourt ground

Dustin had bravely dragged all of his luggage, mind you, larger than Dustin himself, across the square to his residence. Now he dropped onto his bed, if indeed to be called like that. He did not fall completely asleep, but he just spent several minutes in a state of dimmed awareness. He expected Zoey to call him any time on his cellular phone.

The blond Mary-Sue was very controlling. She had already called him during the car trip.

Dustin reckoned with at least three calls per day from his barbie-like sister. But, of copurse, he had not made it up to there just in order to report back to her several times a day. He wanted to have some fun with geomentry and to learn a lot about the deeper secrets of shapes amd spaces.

His first room pal showed up. He introduced himself as Logan Mitchell from Minnesota.

Logan’s way from his homelands to the camp had been much longer than Dustin’s.

Little wonder, Logan was too tired to interrupt his pal for the next ten days.

Their third room pal was going to be Simon Nelson Cooke. But he would not show up before dinner.

2.3. Lauren’s Quarter

Wayne Gilbert cackled one last time before showing his cousin to her residence.

Lauren gasped when seeing those “beds” But she picked up her phone in order to call her best friend viz. True Jackson. She was interrupted by Evelyn Kwong.

The girl of Chinese origin acted in a very brash manner. She commanded Lauren to switch to another “bed”.

Last but not least, Peggy Blake[peggy blake]
complemented the population of the hut. Without her nerdy glasses and an appropriate styling, she looked like an average dumb blonde, but she was smarter than anything else in her family, especially than her cousin Vincent, a reckless jock dreaming of a career as a quearterback for a top team of the National Football League, and she was much less snobbish than her cousin Ashley[ashley blake]
, a Hollywood kid star in Dustin’s age.

There was a short discussion about the distribution of daily routines like waking, laundry, and similar annoying routines.

But, just like the boys, they agreed on concentrating on the reason for their very presence out here, viz. the exploration of the dark and barely penetrable secrets of geometry.

were the kids of the camp, boys or girls alike, going to work their ways into the darkest mysteries and perils of the theory of the space?

Time was going to tell.

Chapter 3. The Camp Begins

3.1. Breakfast

The summer camp promised some fun for the kids.

But such an event was of course not devoid of rules and disciplines.

Those rules appeared vaguely similar to the guidelines of daily life at “Pacific Coast Academy”, as thoroughly familiar to Dustin Brooks.

But for those kids not accustomed to a boading school, there was something to get accustomed to.

There were — for example — those annoying nightly curfews.

Like at “Pacific Coast Academy”, boys in girls’ dorms and vice versa were illegal past a certain time of the day.

Nightly silence started at half past ten post meridiem.

Breakfast was available from seven through half past eight in the morning.

Dustin had wanted to be the first in the camp.

Logan Mitchell was a bit slower than his roomie.

Simon Nelson Cooke had to program his daily scheduler first. He was apparently more of a cyborg than a human.

So Dustin was the first at the breakfast buffet. “Hey! It is almost like ‘Pacific Coast Academy’!”

Mrs. Lee grinned with excruciating mischief. She had heard about that school. “There are many future Hollywood stars at your school, right?”

Dustin nodded proudly. “There is Logan Reese, the son of Malcolm.”

Mrs. lee choked. “Malcolm Reese, the biggest producer ever?”

Dustin agreed. “Yes, he is!”

Mrs. Lee beamed. She deemed her daughter Daisy an exorbitantly gifted acxtress, bound for Hollywood or even Broadway during the next years.

For that avail, having contacts to the big players in the scene, certainly including aforementioned Malcolm Reese, was supposed to be extraordinarily useful.

The chef wondered, “how well do you know …, well, the son of Malcolm Reese?”

Dustin boasted, “oh, quite a bit!”

Mrs. Lee grinned. “That’s fantastic!”

Dustin ordered his usual cocoa and doughnuts.

More and more participants of the camp staggered in. They had been a bit surprised by the morning.

Some of them had been up until too late.

Dustin found “Firewire” claiming a table. He walked over. “Hi! Is there still a free spot?”

Wayne Gilbert cackled. He wasn’t able to do anything different, was he.

Lauren followed him a few seconds later. “Wayne, is this my spot?”

“Firewire” nodded. “Sure! Oh, this is Dustin Brooks from ‘Pacific Coast Academy’. Dustin, that’s my cousin Lauren.”

Dustin shook hands with “Lulu”. He started blushing in an explosive manner

Lauren insisted in being called “Lulu”.

Dustin smiled. “Hi Lulu!” He was unusually timid.

Simon Nelson Cooke walked in like a robot. He attracted thusly everyone’s attention.

Dustin swallowed his doughnut and flushed it down with a torrent of cocoa. He was still a bit dazed by the presence of “Lulu”. But he could not understand why.

3.2. Opening Speech

Mr. Gorman[mr gorman] was the representant of the board directing the series of events comprising this summer camp. He started giving a long and boring speech.

Dusti Brooks sat in the last row. He hated long and boring speeches.

Lauren Johnson had taken seat right in front of him.

Her long and dark hair was hanging down at her back.

Occasionally Lauren grabbed one or two strands of it, placed them between her teeth, and started chewing on its loose ends like on a chunk of bubble gum.

This was a terrible habit of hers connected to her attention deficit symptoms.

Dustin thought this a cute habit.

He grinned. Once in a few minutes, he felt urged to fumble with Lauren’s hair.

Fortunately, Lauren did not notice anything.

And her hair smelled so nice.

Mr. Gorman talked a lot of trash, about as annoying as the annual speech of Dean Rivers. But he also made an important remark.

The camp had been just on the brink of being canceled for lack of participants.

Only the application of Dustin Brooks had finally convinced the board to refrain from taking it down from the list of summer camps.

Many of the pupils gasped.

Dustin went pale.

Gorman tried to explain some details.

It must have been connected to the balance between kids from elemantary schools, middle schools, and high schools.

But he was barely understandable.

And the kids were already looking forward to the fun of geometry.

Finally, Gorman fell fast asleep over his own speech.

Two of his henchman had to direct him to his limousine.

Without this, the adminsitrator would have staggered left and right instead of finding his way out.

The pupils applauded the end of the speech fanatically.

3.3. Mr. Takato

The pupils were now awaiting the first lesson.

An absentminded appearing elderly man of Japanese ethnicity walked to a big blackboard. “I am Mr. Takato. I teach mathematics at ‘Pacific Coast Academy’ middle school.”

Dustin shrugged. “Never heard …”

The pupils wondered about the guy.

Takato explained, “in last minute I have replaced Mr. Howard from ‘Ridgeway’ middle school in Seattle.”

Which mysterious incidences may have resulted in such a replacement?

The kids were not told about it. Thus the started making wild guesses.

Takato started, “today, we are gpoing to talk about the law of Pythagoras.”

Dustin listened carefully. At the same time, he fumbled lightly with Lulu’s endlessly long hair.

Lauren noticed something behind her back. She turned her head around. But she did not catch anything.

Dustin blushed deeper and deeper.

Logan Mitchell knew a lot about the law of Pythagoras.

Unfortunately, Phoebe Nachee did not want to believe him. “Boys can’t understand geometry!”

Evelyn Kwong scratched her head. “maybe? Some of them sure don’t!”

Only Peggy shook her head, thinking Phoebe insane.

Logan puked.

A certain Shawn[shawn] stood up and boomed, “what? I’ve learned about the law of Pythagoras before you …”

Simon Nelson Cooke protested as well.

Dustin started shivering.

Mr. Takato shook his head. “You need to have learned the law of Pythagoras before you may lear about the law of pythagoras.”

The kids looked totally consternated.

3.4. Lunch

The kids were totally confused. They appeared to have forgotten everything about geometry.

Mr. Takato’s words were still totally enigmatic.

But now it was time for lunch.

Unlike for breakfast, there were fixed arrangements for lunch.

Dustin would have liked to sit somehwere near Lauren. But he didn’t want to be too close to her.

That would have been dangerous.

Trading places was possible, but only upon mutual agreement.

Dustin did not have the guts to ask anyone.

Unfortunately, his assigned place “happened” to be close to the kitchen.

Daisy Lee was there. She snuck up to Dustin. “Hey sweetie!”

Dustin choked, thinking, “I’m not her sweetie! Who is that wench anyways?”

Daisy asked, “let’s go to cinema tonight. They show a traditional chinese toon.”

Dustin shook his head. “No, I have to stick to curfews. My sister is calling each night at nine o’ clock, checking whether …”

Daisy snuggled even closer to Dustin, making him feel less and less at ease. “You get some extra dessert if you come to cinema with me. Bananas gratinated with gummi worms!”

Dustin was addicted to deserts, especially to chinese gummi worms. Thus he finally gave in. But he was feeling miserable for that.

It felt like cheating miserably on Lauren, his one and only true crush.

How was he going to get out of this idiotic situation?

Chapter 4. The Camp

4.1. Learning

Dustin was learning a lot in the camp.

Mr. Takato taught them about tensor calculus and differential geometry, the base of Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

That was not an easy task.

But Dustin was doing fairly well.

Lauren always made a few fun remarks during the lessons. “I like curved lines, they are cuter than straight lines. But, coming to think of it, aren’t curved lines a bit gay?” She chewed on her long hairs.

Dustin blushed.

The content of Lauren’s words did not really matter.

Her way of talking always made Dustin blush.

Alas, the little bugger did not dare to fess up. Officially, he was still seen too often with Daisy Lee. But he was just afraid of getting poisoned by her mother for not doing as she bad.

Daisy had made him know about her mother’s position.

The situation was terrible.

“Lulu” still used to sit in front of Dustin. She kept on chewing on the ends of her hair. Sonetimes, she notices something wrong with some of the strands. She occasionally turned her head around for one or another reason, smiling into Dustin’s direction and making him blush ecven more. Biut she was not yet making much sense of it.

4.2. Evelyn intervenes

The summer camp was coming to an end.

Dustin had learned more about geometry than he would probably ever have learned at school.

But learning about girls was a different thing.

The participants of the geometry summer camp were now sitting in the open air cafeteria for lunch.

Dustin Brooks shuddered once again upon the approach of Daisy Lee.

Sudenly, Evelyn Kwong gestured wildly at her cousin, commanding her sternly to go to the kitchen. “Mom needs toy for the plates and the cups.!”

Daisy disappeared on site.

Dustin sighed somewhat with relief.

But now Evelyn Kwong approached his table.

Dustin wondered silently, “what is that supposed to mean?”

Evelyn grinned sadistically, “hey, you gnome!”

Dustin shivered anyways.

Why did Chinese women always have to scare him?

Evelyn sat down. “I see … my cousin Daisy gets a bit too close to you! You don’t exactly enjoy that.”

Her voice was scary.

Dustin nodded solemnly.

Evelyn cackled demonically. “OK, maybe I can do something about it.”

Dustin did not deem that exactly impossible, thinking “For all things significant, Evelyn Kwong is a cousin of Daisy Lee. But she doesn’t sound very friendly. There is sure some hitch to it.”

Evelyn grinned. “So, you are from ‘Pacific Coast Academy’, aren’t you?”

Her voice made Dustin’s bone and marrow vibrate.

Evelyn grunted. “OK, this Firewire guy is from your school, ain’t he?”

Dustin nodded slowly.

Evelyn Kwong drummed the table triumphantly with her fists.

Dustin looked puzzled. “He’s really Wayne Gilbert, though …”

Evelyn explained, “get him to date me! You’ve got all the time in the world, even after the end of the summer camp. Firewire won’t run away from you.”

Dustin looked consternated.

Evelyn explained, “I’m from Santa Clarita. That’s still in Los Angeles county.”

Dustin nodded. “I’ve got an A plus in a recent test about the geography of the county.”

Evelyn groaned, “aw cool! Then you know: I may show up some time and control your efforts. So, don’t dare to be sloppy! Or I may also sneak Daisy to ‘Pacific Coast Academy’. She’s totally into Hollywood stuff, you know.”

Dustin trembled. But he did not see himself left with a better alternative.

Evelyn boomed, “deal?”

Dustin nodded slowly.

Evelyn beamed. “OK, Brooks!”

Dustin had already got an idea. “Until this summer, there had been no girls at ‘Pacific Coast Academy’.”

Evelyn grunted, “I know.”

Dustin continued, “there won’t be too many this first year of coeducation, either.”

Evelyn shrugged. “Don’t waste my time!”

Dustin explained, “in order to fill the lack of girls, the admin has always invited girls from other schools of the county for certain events, such as cheerleading and school balls. There will be such a ball also this year.”

Evelyn nodded. “I understand that. So, get me to be Wayne Gilbert’s, or Firewire’s, whatever, partner for that school ball, and Daisy won’t stalk you.”

Dustin nodded understandingly.

Evelyn grinned.

4.3. Last Night

There was only one night left before the kid’s departure from the summer camp.

Curfew was already passed.

Dustin Brooks, Logan Mitchell, and Simon Nelson Cooke were loitering in their dormitory rooms, too excited to fall fast asleep.

Dustin was not the only guy unable to fess up to his crush, viz. Lauren Johnson.

But the case of Logan Mitchell was a tad bit different.

He could not decide between Peggy Blake and Phoebe Nachee.

Simon Nelson Cooke wanted to decide about Logan’s dilemma with his palmtop. “OK, I need the data. What are the advantages of Peggy vs. Phoebe?”

Logan Mitchell sighed. “Peggy is so sweet. But Phoebe is the hottest!” He groaned for despair. “Too bad Phoebe refuses to acknowledge the boys’ knowledge about mathematics.”

Dustin had been annoyed by Phoebe’s arrogance as well. But like Cookie, he was still hell bent on showing it unto Phoebe.

This wasn’t going to happen today or tomorrow, but once when least expected …

Peggy, on the other hand, wanted to become an actress as much as a scientist.

And any boy would have distracted her from finding herself.

Dustin did not know it yet. But he would soon enough encounter Ashley and Vincent, the arrogant cousins of Peggy, as new students at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Simon’s computer was now trying to evaluate the data.

Unfortunately, everything was too complicated for an automated answer.

The palmtop gort heated beyond reason. It started to smoulder and to smoke, just like shortcircuited.

Some questions could probably only be answered by humans.

4.4. Departure

Dustin’s luggage was now rigged and ready.

Mom and Zoey would fetch him from the camp within a few hours.

Daisy had actually left him in peace during the last day.

But Dustin could not trust it.

With or without Evelyn’s influence, the “Wok Star” was only a few miles down the road from “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Daisy’s school, “Silver Spring”[silver spring], was one of the partner schools of “Pacific Coast Academy” in the case of a shortage of girls.

This was so scary.

Dustin looked once more at Lauren from across the entrance square of the campus. He blushed over and over again.

At least she was Wayne Gilbert’s cousin.

So there was indirectly some hope left.

But this reminded Zoey’s little brother of his tough task of gettinbg Wayne to date Evelyn Knong.

Lauren and Wayne were ready to enter a bus. They waved once more at Dustin.

Dustin waved back. He could not hide his blushing face.

Finally, the kids form Manhattan were gone.

Dustin was of course hell bent on seeing Lauren again.

Finally, mom and Zoey appeared in their convertible around the corner.

Duistin sighed. The entered the car.

Zoey and mom expected him to tell them a lot about the camp.

Dustin was of course totally keen on his increased knowledge about geometry.

But his crush on Lauren and his worries about being stalked by Daisy caused him to talk in a troubled manner.

Zoey noticed something wrong. But she did not want to make Dustin talk about it in front of the parents.

There were enough occasions for her to make him talk at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Dustin waved at his other pals, such as Simon Nelson Cooke.

The car’s engine howled.

The convertible was now homewards bound.

But soon, life at “Pacific Coast Academy” would never be the same for little Dustin Brooks.

Chapter 5. New Academic Year

5.1. Zoey and Dustin at PCA

The sun climbed the firmament towering over Malibu, the beach settlement right in front of the gates of the metropole of fame and glory, viz. Los Angeles.

The summer break of the students of “Pacific Coast Academy” had finally come to an end.

They were flocking back to the campus for the start of a new academic year.

Many parents and other responsible adults accompanied their kids to the campus.

This had often enought got the consequences of jamming certain sensitive spots of the campus, especially the parking lots, the cafeteria, the campus square, and the foyers of the boys’ and the girls’ halls.

As aforementioned, it was the school’s first year of coeducativity.

Girls were thus totally new on the campus.

For Zoey Brooks it was a bit easier than for many other girls. She was in the company of Dustin, and “experienced” studentat “Pacific Coast Academy”. Axtually, she would have been totally embarrassed by admitting to depend somewhat on her little brother. She always wanted to make it look totally the other way. Thus she tried as hard as possible to get along without Dustin’s help.

And being a blond Mary Sue helped Zoey a lot in order to find support from other boys.

Indeed, Zoey, Dustin, and Papa Brooks had exited the convertible no more than five seconds ago.

Now some middle school boy with a particularly bushy head rode his bike accidentaly no more than a few yards away from the Brooks Clan. But he was apparently so much distracted by Zoey’s barbie-like charm … he could not upkeep the control over his bicycle and made it kiss the next flag staff. Of course he was not able to stay on his bike. He staggered and slumped onto the pavement, almost covered by the flag.

Zoey helped him up.

His name was Chase Matthews.

The bushy freak could only talk in scraps and patches. He was both dizzy from the impact and confused by Zoey’s appearance.

For Dustin, this looked quite cheesy.

Mr. Brooks allowed Chase to guide Zoey to her dormitory hall. He would accompany Dustin a bit longer.

For Dustin, this was not too bad. He still had not told anyone at home about his feelings for Lulu.

Likewise, his fears of Daisy Lee were still stuck exclusively to his mind.

5.2. Out of money

During the following days, Dustin had seen his elder sister challenge the jerkish boys around ultra-pervert Logan Reese in basketball.

The playboy of the millennium had claimed, “girls are at most good at cheerleading. They aren’t suited for any real sports like basketball.”

Zoey could not accept that statement. She had organised a team of a few girls, especially annoying bimbo wench Nicole Bristow from Kansas and nerdy dork girl Quinn Pensky from Seattle, in order to face the boys’ team in a death match. Zoey was really the only one able to play the game, and she got injured after some time through the impact of mean guy Logan. But she had not given up.

Her roomie Dana Cruz, an arrogant bully, jumped in.

The girls still lost, but not by much.

Zoey was chosen into the team by coach Ferguson[coach ferguson].

Dustin had cheered for his elder sister, against all odds.

But there were now nwew problems for the little bugger.

In the campus shop, Duystin had seen a container filled with gummi worms. He was addicted to that stuiff and thence he decided to buy them all.

But the price swallowed up all of his pocket change.

Dustin was thus flat broken.

Where to get monety from until the next pay day?

Of course, Dustin’s first idea was that of begging Zoey.

But she wasn’t exactly the bank of America.

Dustin had to earn some bucks on his own. But he was too young to work in a campus shop, or the cafeteria, the library, or for one of the restaurants such as “Sushi Rox”, a very popular Japanese café on the campus run by one Kazu.

5.3. Quinnventions

Quinn Pensky liked to invent things.

Those were accordingly called “quinnventions”.

She also had develioped a few strange theories, such as assigning emotions to food.

The stupid, ignoble mass of the students, such as Logan Reese and Michael Barret, called her a spaz for being so advanced and standing miles above vulgar human beings.

This had not been much different during her time at Seattle.

This could not break Quinn Pensky’s stride and stop her from walking towards her goal of intellectual domination of that verminous mankind.

But her theories and inventions needed to be tested.

And this was Dustin’s chance:

He served as a test object for Quinn’s mean experiments, of course for some decent payment.

The first important project was Quinn’s dream monitor. Until now, it was just able to measure the victim’s brain activities while asleep.

But Quinn really wanted it to be able to put people’s dreams onto a screen, just like a movie or TV show.

Malcolm Reese and other Hollywood bosses could pay Quinn good money for it.

Exorbitantly overprotective Zoey Brooks would certainly not have approved of Quinn sticking all sorts of icky electrodes into Dustin’s brittle head..

But Dustin needed the bucks more than Zoey’s stupid comments about his health and sanity.

Indeed, Quinn was partly working together with mid-aged mad scientist Denzel Crocker[denzel crocker].

That freak was hell bent on finding out about children’s godparent fairies.

With some luck, Dustin Brooks had still got these.

And then the dream monitor would strike mercilessly and catch his fairies in the middle of a dream.

For anything that matters, Dustin’s drems had been centered since his return from“Camp Geo” around his crush on Lulu and his disgust for Daisy.

Would Quinn find out?

5.4. Californian Dreams

Lauren’s new academic year at her district school in New York City had started as well.

Like her friends Ryan Laserbeam and True Jackson, she was now in her last year of elementary school.

But True noticed, “you seem to be less and less happy over here.”

Lauren admitted sadly, “since the summer camp, I’m so keen on southern California. I can’t think or dream about anything else.”

Ryan moaned, “you really want to follow your cousin to that school for snobs?”

True poked Ryan. “Not everyone going to a private boarding school is a snob!”

Ryan scratched his dumb skull.

Lauren swooned. “The weather is much better down there. And the teachers and the boys and the beaches and so on … but especially the weather. Do you know that it never rains in summer in Southern California?[never rains in california].”

True grunted, “that’s just a song. Don’t forget: It pours!”

Lauren sighed deeply. “The main probem: It costs quite a bit. And my parents haven’t got endlessly bucks.”

True nodded solemnly.

Ryan remarked, “My brother Stu[stu laserbeam]
has had a scholarship for a snobbish prep school.”

But Lauren still needed very goosd arguments to justify such a troublesome move, anyweays.

This year, their teacher for mathematics was a certain Mr. Jamerson[mr jamerson]
.

A scholarship required very ood references from teachers.

This meant a lot of work and efforts for Lauren. Was she really up to it without neglecting her friends Ryan and True?

The following weeks would be very hard for her.

Chapter 6. Ashley Blake

6.1. Information Leak

Dustin was sitting in his dormitory room, doing his homework.

There were noises at the door.

Dustin went looking. “Zoey?”

The blond Mary Sue walked in. “Dustin, have you told any of the boys about my demolished toe?”

Dustin shook his head.

Zoey’s toe had once been hit by some bowling ball and been misshapen upon that accident, looking like a corn crop.

Zoey sighed. “OK, why would you do that, anyways.” She was now feeling awfully sad for having accused Dustin.

It had been actually Dana’s idea.

Indeed, several boys on the campus had made fun of Zoey’s toe. just a few hours ago.

But, indeed, other girls had been made fun of, too:

Quinn Pensky, Nicole Bristow, and Dana Cruz were among them.

Strangely, all of them had been talking about the subject of the boys’ jokes in the lounge during the last two days.

But there had been no boys present.

For Zoey, this was strange.

6.2. Little Diva

Ashley Blake was an arrogant diva, and a cousin of Peggy Blake. During the last years, she had been the star of a string of Hollywood movies for children, suuch as Kid Queen. She was now new at “Pacific Coast Academy”, like all female students. Usually, she would not have bothered with average boys like Dustin Brooks.

But, according to Peggy’s report from “Camp Geo”, Dustin was well acquainted with Logan Reese, the son of Hollywood titan Malcolm Reese.

Ashley’s career as a kid star would not necessarily have resulted in a future as a teenage Hollywood star.

This brink was not an easy one.

Many kid stars have failed there and disappeared in the middle of the land of nowhere.

Ashley was by absolutely no means willing to sheir those disappointed children’s fate. She had to do something about it.

According to general experience, good contacts to the producers were the key to a contiuning career.

Peggy Blake had also told her cousin about Daisy Lee’s attempt of using Dustin for her planned career as a Hollywood star, precisely due to Dustin’s apparently good connections to Logan Reese.

Logan was influential on his own right.

His judgment had surely got the potential of meaning either bloom or doom for the fledgling Hollywood dreams of any of his fellow pupils.

Needless to say, Ashley saw Daisy as an excruciatingly dangerous competitor. She had to be faster than her and secure Logan Reese’s support for herself instead of leaving it all to that toad known as Daisy Lee. Ashley couldn’t really stand Dustin, she could hardly stand any boy.

But as a tool for her career, Dustin would be more than just welcome.

Ashley just needed to find a way to sneak up to him and claim him for herself — in an equally hypocritical way, of course — before Daisy’s success with a similar claim on Dustin.

Wendy Gellar[wendy gellar], future room mate of Ashley, would certainly help her.

This had already been announced by Megan Parker, a common friend of Ashley and Wendy from San Diego.

6.3. Dangerous Care Bear

Two days later, Quinn pensky had identified the source of the information leak.

A micro chip had been hidden in a giant care bear in the girl’s lounge. It was sending informations in an asynchroneous transfer mode to some receiver somewhere on the campus.

The plush monster had been a gift from Logan Reese.

The obnoxious rumours about the girls’ past had only started after the donation of the gift, said to make up for Logan’s poor ways of treating the girls during the first weeks of the new academic year..

So, Logan Reese was obviously the culprit. But Logan was way too dumb to deal with that much technology.

The girls could not yet know that.

But Dustin was very much familiar with this fact.

Quinn Pensky, of course, could have been a traitor and have inserted the micro chip.

This would have mede her really mean.

She would have done that just in order to get Logan Reese framed.

The informations obtained from the care bear were no news at all for Quoinn.

The geek girl had been present with the other lasses all the time.

Could girls be that mean and abusive?

Apparently this was possible, as best seen in the case of Daisy Lee.

But Dustin had not yet got a reason to suspect that.

Logan Reese could easily have hired anyone with some sufficiently good knowledge of micro technology. He had got tons of buck at his hand in order to pay others for making his dirty works.

Dustin knew about this very well. He had started working as an errant biy for Logan Reese.

This helped him to pay for more gummi worms.

Dustin was still totally addicted to his stuff.

So, which other guys on the camopus were knowledgeable with respect to micro electronics to a sufficient degree?

Dustin Brooks knew a few of them.

The nerdiest of all nerds was a certain Miles Brody[miles brody]. He lived somewhere in the library. He had got a perfect rote memory and was able to memorise several pages of a book within less than a minute.

But did Logan Reese really dare to enter the deeper sections of a library?

Satan beware!

Logan may have been mistaken for a nerd.

This would have been the end of Logan’s career as a playboy and a girl-eating jerk.

Logan Reese would never have risked anything like that.

And there was another alternative, viz. Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert.

The nick name says it all.

According to Wayne, fire wire technology was named for him, and not vice versa.

Alas, this reminded Dustin of his task of getting Wayne Gilbert to date Evelyn Kwong, the best occasion being the annual middle school dance.

Otherwise Daisy would stick to him like glue.

And Dustin was not yet aware of a second girl eager on using his connections to Logan Reese.

Ashley had decided in favour of a slow but powerful approach.

Dustin could have denounced Wayne to the girls.

But this would neither have helped him with getting “Firewire” to date Evelyn Kwong nor to vouching for him unto Lulu.

6.4. Lulu’s To Do

Lulu had made a list of things to do in order to obtain a recommendation for a school like “Pacific Coast Academy” and thus be able to convince her parents.

True was supposed to help her. But she would miss Lulu badly.

Likewise, Ryan was not exactly keen on letting Lulu go.

Ann Turzo[ann turzo]
, an arrogant blond demon from Lulu’s classes, knew “Pacific Coast Academy” very well. She had got a cousin living over there.

Melanie Puckett[melanie puckett] was a girl from Seattle sent to “Pacific Coast Academy” in order to dodge the evil influence of her family. She could have helped Lulu to quite some degree.

But was Ann Turzo really willing to help Lulu contacting her alike-looking cousin?

The price would not be low.

Ann Turzo could be very cruel, just like her even more evil cousin Samantha from Seattle.

Ryan was horrified by her.

True warned her best friend. “Be very careful! She could squish you like a giant’s hammer.”

Lulu looked puzzled. Would she make it?

Chapter 7. Dramatic

7.1. Drama Club

The “Pacific Coast Academy” was not only just a few miles from Hollywood, the world’s heart of drama and entertainment. It was also sponsored by the big numbers of Hollywood business, such as Malcolm Reese and Mr. Fujizaki[fujizaki].

This gave some significant weight to its drama club.

It could not hold the dimmest candle to specialised schools, such as “Palmwood” or “Hollywood School for the Professional Performance Arts”. Nevertheless, it provided a suitable launching platform for many talents: actors, playwrights, stage builders, costume designers, mask builders, directors, you name it.

But during the last years, the club suffered from the lack of girls.

Female stars had either been avoided by choosing boy-only plays, or played by transvestites.

In some very rare cases, actresses from other schools had been hired.

7.2. Zorka

This year, Mr. Fletcher[mr fletcher] was the responsible adviser of the club. He was a former mediocre Hollywood actor and tried to make himself and his experience appear greater than necessary. Now he had chosen a play Alien Girl Zorka, written by Chase Bartholomew Matthews.

Zorka was stranded on planet earth and about sinking in the ocean. She was saved by some heroic bay watch, kissing him in the end.

Clearly, the play had been written in order to serve only one purpsose.

Chase was addicted to Zoey and wanted to abuse the occasion in order to sneak a kiss from her.

7.3. Auditions

As planned by Chase, Zoey was chosen as Zorka. She would not act as Zorka, she would simply be Zorka, no more and no less.

But then, Chase’s plans got messed with badly.

Logan Reese had at first glance not been interested in theatre, inspite of his family heritage.

But this changed upon hearing about the female star.

Of course, a ruthless dandy like Logan Reese could never love a Mary Sue like Zoey Brooks. But he was hell bent on getting to kiss her in a most abusive manner, just in order to annoy Chase and to humiliate self-aware girls like Zoey Brooks. Logan had always sensed Chase’s little crush. For that avail, Logan had decided to try out as the bay watch. And he appeared exorbitantly convincing. This was Logan’s chance to giving a proof of his masculinity in the most perverse manner.

Mr. Fletcher could not help but giving the male star rôle to Logan.

Chase, of course, was very little pleased by this.

Zoey was mentally inebriated. She could even imagine liking Logan.

This was the lowest point of Zoey’s life.

Nobody right in his mind could ever have imagined Zoey stooping that excruciatingly low.

7.4. Dustin’s Worries

Dustin may not have cared about Zoey’s crush life. But he was worried about her and Logan kissing, anyways. he had been watching the basketball match between the middle school girls and the middle school boys.

The scene with Logan pushing Zoey rudely intoi the dirt was still stuuck in his mind.

He imagined Logan up to hurting Zoey again. He clearly could not watch. But he was not anuwhere near able to change Zoey’s mind.

Elder sisters could be so stubborn.

Dustin did not yet talk about his worries unto anyone. But he grew sick from the mere thought of Zoey and Logan being together in the same scene. Unfortunately, he mistook it for a flew.

7.5. Ticklish

The infirmary of “Pacific Coast Academy” was not very popular among the kids.

The nurse was an evil censored.

Thus Dustin wanted to contact his sister first.

She could have known a few traditional remedies against the flu.

Unfortunately, Zoey was not in her dormitory rioom dur to having to attend rehearsalas with Logan.

Dana was the only one in “101 Butler Hall”, Zoey’s dorm. She hated Dustin and senthim rudely away, shutting the door with an earhshaking sound.

Later, Zoey would know about Dana’s rude demeanour towards Dyustin and punish her severely by getting her removed from “Pacific Coast Academy” and sent to a boarding school in France.

Accidentally, Quinn passed by and was now offering to cure Dustin.

This appeared still better than the nurse’s station.

Dustin was tied to a bed and subjected to some electric foot massage and to a vaccum cleaner sucking bacteria from his tongue.

Alas, he did not feel better afterwards.

7.6. Ashley’s Intervention

Ashley Blake would have been able to act the rôle of Zorka the alien girl from Zorkesia with ease.

But the play was too lame for her taste.

Nevertheless, Dustin’s situation had stimulated her mind.

She snuck up to Dustin. “You don’t like to see Zoey kiss Logan, do you?”

Dustin shivered.

Ashley grinned. “I may do something about it.”

Dustin glared aghast.

Ashley stated plainly, “I will play Zorka! But you will owe me big time for that! It’as a really stupid play, written by an idiot for idiots. So don’t think my help to be cheap!” She cackled at the top of her lungs.

Dustin sighed deeply. He was too desperate to decline Ashley’s offer.

7.7. The New Zorka

Mr. Fletcher was flattered by the presence of Ashley Blake.

As a trained kid star actor, she had got no problems with such a primitive rôle.

Zoey was totally disappointed. How could she have lost out to a middle school girl?

But it was too late.

Zoey just wasn’t a real actress. She could be Zorka, but she could not act.

Ashley, of course, was a perfect representant of that profession. She had been declined by “Palmwood” for stupid reasons like her inability to submit to team work.

7.8. The Première

Logan had not been pleased, either.

Ashley was too young for his taste. As a teenage girl, she would have got him hooked, using all bells and whistles. But, being hardly ten years old, she could just do her job of the day, as boring as it was.

Thus he flunked his rôle badly.

This gave Zoey the occasion to learn Logan’s true motivation for participating in the play. She was thoroughly cured from her potentially blossoming affection for Mr. Totally Wrong.

Ashley saved the play with an impressive solo improvisation.

Mr. Sikowitz, a teacher of acting from “Hollywood School for the Professional Performance Arts”, would be totally enthusiastic upon getting to see a video of the play.

But Logan had his worst day ever.

Alas, Ashley was not done with him. In a few years, as a hot teenage girl, she would be out for him again, that time for real. Noe she just had to keep him close, using Dustin Brooks as the guy inbetween.

7.9. A Chance For Lauren

Lulu appeared to have somewhat lost her hitherto strong endeavour.

But Ann “Pinky” Turzo refuelled her ambitions. “News from Melanie! As you know, she’s the captain of the cheerleaders of ‘Pacific Coast Academy’.”

Laure listened with increased interest. She might have heard about that detail, but she had not yet cared about cheerleading business.

Ann explained, “‘Pacific Coast Academy’ needs more girls, especially as cheerleaders. For that avail, they have now introduced cheerio fellowships.”

But I’m not really a cheerio. Not at all.

Ryan remarked, “you could be a cute one!”

Pinky smiled. “Melanie would help you.”

Kelsey, a fellow student at their school, intervened. “It is not that hard.” She offered to teach Lulu.

True remarked, “even if you don’t succeed as a cheerio, you may impress the people there with your real strength. Thumbs up!”

Lulu gasped. “I would hurt my thumbs this way?”

True chuckled.

But it looked like an opportunity, and a better one than relying on her weird cousin Wayne.

Chapter 8. Dustin The Gladiator

8.1. Dustin’s Phobia

One of Dustin’s greatest fears was that of puppies, gold fish, and other animals of comparable sizes.

For example, the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy” was occasionally roamed by aggressive squirrels living in the nearby bushes.

Those beasts were not unlikely to bite the unwary passerby.

That would have hurt for real.

Kids like Dustin thence refused to leave the paved areas without a body guard.

But even this was not totally safe.

Everything had started with a cute and totally harmless looking goldfish swimming happily in a fish tank in the lobby of the library of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Dustin, not aware of any possible danger, had dared to stick one of his fingers into the clear water. “Fishy! Fishy! Fishy!”

The goldfish, however, must have felt the need to defeand his own domain against some dangerous intruder.

Or maybe Dustin’s finger looked like a delicious worm, the right size for a tasty meal.

A second later, Dustin was feeling compelled to scream like a bimbo wench and run away in exorbitant terror.

This had been the first bad accident for Zoey’s little brother involving a little animal.

Would he be scared for the miserable rest of his wretched life?

8.2. Killer Toad

One nice afternoon, Dustin sat on the pavement, working on his much too easy algebra assignment. Then he was distorted by a toad, slightly bigger than the murderous goldfish. Now he started squealing again for excruciating terror and run into Zoey’s direction, reporting the life threatening incident.

Unfortunately, Zoey’s evil friends Chase and Michael were standing nearby. And they dared to make fun of him.

Especially Michael turned out as a totally perverse and disgusting jerk by immitating the wild toad’s sound, making Dustin startling even more.

On the other hand, Dustin denied bing afraid of animals.

In order to make him prove that, Michael forced him to take care of Elvis, a puppy guarded by Zoey and her friends.

Pets were strictly illegal at “Pacific Coast Academy”

Thus Elvis had to be hidden strictly from the adults.

Michael, on the other hand, was only concerned by the evil wish of torturing Dustin both physically and mentally even more.

8.3. A Weapon

Elvis may have looked all cute and harmless, but he was a veritable killer beast of the uttermost murderous sort.

Dustin could impossibly face him without proper equipment, such as weapons and armour.

But where to get it from?

Ashley’s brother Vince was both in te football team and the hockey squad.

But a football player’s suit would have made him clumsy.

Maybe there was a smarter solution?

Quinn was currently unable to help Dustin.

The reason was her crush on the most dorky dweeb of “Pacific Coast Academy”, Mark Del Figgalo.

Dustin had to look for some other genius in order to fetch help.

There were two choices: Miles Brody or Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert.

Somehow, it sounded like Ulysses’ legendary choice between Scylla and Charybdis, two adjacent monsters sea monsters in his way.

Neither of those nerds would help him unselfishly.

Having to deal with Wayne anyways, Dustin decided in favour of “Firewire” as the lesser evil.

8.4. Ashley’s Idea

Ashley Blake had heard about Dustin’s dilemma. But, as the sister of a successful athlete, she had got a useful idea.

Dustin would listen carefully.

Ashley asked, “Vince is a great athlete. But what is the reaon for his victories?”

Dustin shrugged. “Money?”

Ashley laughed. “He doesn’t yet get paid zilch. No, the cheerleaders are his motivation.”

Dustin looked puzzled.

Ashley continued, “hire a few cheerio girls, and you will feel a whole lot stronger, I tell you! You boys are ultimately alike.”

Dustin sighed. “There are not many cheerio girls at ‘Pacific Coast Academy’.”

Most cheerio girls had to be hired from other schools.

Ashley sent Dustin Melanie Puckett’s way. “Just remember who saved you from your own cowardice!”

8.5. The Shocker

Wayne Gilbert gave Dustin a little shock pistol.

The device fit nicely into his brittle hands.

Wayne explained the way of functioning. “It may even be used remotely, but it works best in an infight!”

Dustin shuddered violently. He would probably tremble for increasing terror and have a hard time managing the shock pistol.

Wayne added, “OK, I have to fetch Lulu now. She’s trying out as a cheerio girl at ‘Pacific Coast Academy’. See you!” He cackled in his usual foolish manner. “Oh, I will tell you the price later on.”

Dustin blushed. He pondered silently, “Lulu is coming to town?”

The thought of his secret crush cheering for him made him feel a bit stronger.

But he had to ask Melanie first.

8.6. Lulu Tries Out

Dustin had reached Melanie’s dormitory room.

The blonde giggled. “So you need cheerleaders for yourself?”
“Dustin nodded solemnly.”

Melanie smiled. “But why do you have take care of that? Even for individual athletes, the school takes care of assigning cheerleaders.”

Dustin sighed. “It’s not for an athletic competition.”

Melanie needed to know the details.

Dustin told Ms. Puckett the long story.

Melanie had to giggle from time to time. But then she decided, “OK, that would be a great first challenge for those students from far away coming today applying for a scholarship as cheerio girls.”

Dustin asked, “Lauren?”

Melanie scratched her head. “You know her?”

Dustin blushed fanatically.

Melanie shrugged. “OK, I’ll have to see.”

8.7. Welcome To The Arena

Dustin’s wish had come true.

Lauren Johnson had been officially assigned as his postulant cheerleader. She was now wearing official cheerio uniform.

Of course Dustin had to blush when seeing her again.

Lauren was totally surprised. “So you are sort of a bull fighter?”

Dustin nodded. “Puppy fighter must be more like it.” He shivered. I’m horribly afraid of puppies.

Lulu gasped. She was not afraid of bigger dogs. But she hated pigeons on similar beasts. “They can be totally evil!”

Dustin believed her blindly.

Lulu had to cheer for Dustin from outside the dormitory hall, standing at the window of the dormitory room containing Dustin and Elvis, like two wrestlers or kick boxers in a cage. She waved her cheerio fans.

Dustin oepned the door, shivering like aspen leaves.

Lulu started dancing randomly.

Elvis started barking worse than a pack of lions and tried to somersault poor Dustin.

Zoey’s brother stepped aside, avoiding the first attack.

Lulu started singing a song for Dustin, Nostrils Of Elvis[nostrils of elvis]
.

Dustin’s courage increased more and more.

But this did not last for long.

At least it allowed Dustin to escape safely through the frot door.

Now Lulu had made it into the hall and reached Dustin in the corridor.

The valiant boy panted heavily.

Lauren decided to come with him.

Dustin looked aghast.

Lauren insisted, “now the beast has got to defeat the two of us at least!”

Dustin could not deny that. But he insisted in leading.

The door went open.

Dustin and Lauren stumbled in. They jumped into different directions.

They took turns in taunting and distractinmg the beast.

Foolish Elvis jumpoed all over the place, getting tired after some time. Finally, he broke down all excited.

Dustin huggled Lulu closely, blushing deeper and deeper.

Then theyb walked away.

Michael would be upset due to Elvis’ collapse.

But the kids did not care.

Unfortunately, Melanie had expected something different from Lulu.

She may have sucked as a cheerleader. But Lauren was still celebrated as a hero, just like Dustin.

There were still other open doors for her in order to make it to “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Alas, Dustin was still not able to fess up. Would he ever?

Only time would be able to tell.

[nostrils of elvis] spoof off Eye Of The Tiger, third-party owned song by survivor and part of the theme of third-party owned movie Rocky.

Chapter 9. Spring Concert

9.1. Drake Parker[drake parker]

Once each year, not long after the return from winter break, the kids at “Pacific Coast Academy” celebrated a party known as “Spring Fling”.

It had its roots in a feast honoured by migrants for some regions with winters mouch harder than here in the area of Los Angeles, especially the beach area.

It was probably meant to mark the begin of rural work outdoors after a forced break during the winter months, dictated by climatic circumstances.

All of these had lost their significance right here in the southern Californian coastal regions.

But people loved to celebrate.

Thus feasts kept on being observed inspite of having lost their sense all but completely.

The spring fling included a banquet and an open air concert.

As well known, the “Pacific Coast Academy” used to be aschool for boys only.

Partoes withput girls were boring, thus there had been invited some from neighbouring schools.

But there was another detrimental consequence:

Boys had not been any good at prganising parties appropriately.

Especially the music and the buffet suffered a lot from that deficit..

Michael and Chase had suffered severely from lame music, amd they were not at all looking forward to spring fling.

But this years, the girls were in charge with the organisation.

More precisely, Zoey Brooks had taken the initiative and gotten also Dana Cruz and Nicole Bristow involved in the whole business.

Zoey had chosen a particular star:

Drake Parker was a very promising rock musician from San Diego. A few months ago, he had subbed successfully for renowned rock star Devin Malone[devin malone] upon the idol’s injury right before a concert. Drake had noit yet got a record contract, buut he had already played himself into the hearts and minds of almost all southern Californian teenage girls.

Nicole Bristow would for sure have both killed and died for him.

Alas, there was one hitch:

Drake was not excatly cheap.

His filthy creep of a manager requested five thousand bucks for Drake’s concert on the campus at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Logan Reese could have paid for it. But he was by no means interested in calling onto the campus a really dangerous potential competitor for the few girls here.

Thus Zoey had to look for other sponsors. She felt compelled to resort to the usual means of fund raising, such as car wash. She had also got an idea for the logo of Drake’s band.

Dustin contributed a few bucks, though. He had earned them as Quinn’s test subject for her scientific experiments about sleep withdrawal.

9.2. Dustin’s Plan

Dustin Brooks was sincerely worried about the potential failure of Zoey’s attempts to secure Drake Parker’s band for a concert for “Pacific Coast Academy” upon spring fling.

But what could be done about it?

Ashley Blake walked up and down his lounge with some new outfit.

Dustin wondered, “where do you get those hot clothes from?”

Ashley replied with a demonic voice, “hey! I’m a celebrity! I get them right from the best fashion labels in New York City.”

Dustin sighed. “Isn’t it very cold at this time of the year in New York?”

Ashley grinned. “Sometimes it is … but they design clothes for ach and every situation. See, we celebrities wearing their clothes are the best publicity. They all are mad for us: Simon Christini[simon christini]
, Max Madigan, … you name them.”

Dustin could not have named any.

But Lulu lived in New York City.

Her best friend, True Jackson, was reported as a total fashion freak.

Dustin compared her to Zoey. He considered contacting his secret crush and request her help.

True might have contacts to some of the big players in New York City’s fashion scene.

Dustin picked his laptop and started sending Lulu a message, attachiong eventually a picture of Zoey’s wonderful shirt design.

9.3. Mad Style

Snow was flying.

It was a cold yet bright morning in New York City.

Lulu sat on a couch along with her best friends, Ryan and True. She had just read Dustin’s message. “OK, True, who would be the best labels to recommend?”

True sighed. “I would love to work for any of them. But personally, my favourite would be Mad Style.”

Ryan was not sure. “I would not by clothes named ‘mad’. People would think you insane.”

Lulu gasped. “Really?”

True shook her head. “Honestly, names like ‘Mad Style’ provoke a lot of attention.” She decided to forward Zoey’s designs to “Mad Style”.

Lulu was still waiting for an answer from Los Angeles.

Her postulancy for a cheerio fellowship had failed miserably.

But they were now working on offering her a very rare academic fellowship.

Matching with the weather, Lulu felt in a state of hibernisation and winter lethargy.

9.4. Zoey Gets Discovered

Two days later, Zoey was called into the post office. She was in a stinky mood.

Her first fund raising activities had backfired completely.

They had only made one thousand bucks and not yet subtracted the costs for soap and water for the car wash and so on.

It was thus impossible for them to hire someone like Drake Parker.

Zoey’s great shiny dream had been turning into a creeping nightmare.

And this would leave Zoey in lethargy and stagnation.

She felt like frozen in space and time, stuck in deepest emotional winter.

The lady in charge of the mail handed Zoey an official-looking envelope.

Having thanked the employee, Zoey could not trust her eyes. “Mad Style? How do they even know about me?” She had heard a lot of good things about this fashion label. Now she opened the envelope in a very careful manner. She gasped. “An offer for the rights to my design for Drake Parker shirts?”

The recompensation was even more than just the missing five thousand bucks.

But Zoey would have to be available exclusively for freelance jobs during the next twelve months.

This appeared acceptable.

Zoey was clueless concerning the reasons for the offer. But she was happy beyond any reason.

9.5. Missing Out

Drake Parker’s concert was a plain success. He played several super cool songs.

But there was one considerable drawback:

Dustin had been without sleep for several days as part and parcel of Quinn’s experiment. Now he was exhausted beyond any measure. He got one of his fellow students to break open some device preventing him from sleeping. Then he passed out for many hours straight.

Thus Dustin’s life was standing still.

But Dustin used this forced break for a good purpose. He was now able to concentrate on the things to come, especially the probem of getting Wayne Gilbert to date Evelyn Kwong. And he was more than ever able to ponder about his potential soul relation ship with Lulu.

This was worth more than the skipped concert of a reckless jerk.

Dustin’s emotional life was still hibernating.

But spring would sooner or later reach out for him.

Unfortunately, there was one unpleasant side effect

Drake Parker was a big idol of Daisy Lee.

His concert had increased her almost stagnating interest in “Pacific Coast Academy” and in Dustin, the brother of the girl able to organise parties with the really big stars.

Chapter 10. Dancing For Your Life

10.1. Backpack Design

The connections to “Mad Style” established by Dustin and Lulu proved to be very useful.

A few days later, Zoey was able to submit her design of backpacks to that label
Those fashionable backpacks had been born from an ccident.

Nicole Bristow had spoiled backpacks in the library.

Zoey needed to buy them and just made the best of it. Now she was on the brink of becoming famous for them.

Dustin was glad for his sister. But he was stuck in other troubles.

10.2. Middle School Dance

As aforementioned, there was that middle school dance at “Pacific Coast Academy”, once each year.

Girls were still a vast minority at “Pacific Coast Academy”, and they had been missing completely during the previous years.

The gap had for that avail to be filled with students from neighbouring schools such as “Hollywood School for the Professional Performance Arts”, “Palmwood”, “Silver Spring”, and “James K. Polk”, similar to the lack of cheerio girls.

The dance was only for middle school kids.

Dustin would thence not be allowed to participate.

But it touched Dustin, anyways.

The time had come to make Dustin’s part of the deal with Evelyn Kwong from “James K. Polk”come true.

And this meant making her Firewire’s date for the middle school dance of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

10.3. Computer Choice

Dustin went silently into Wayne Gilbert’s dormitory room.

Wayne cackled in his usual manner. “You still owe me for my support for your bullfighting performance.”

Dustin nodded solemnly. “How about … I help you find a date for the school dance?”

Wayne cackled. “Very good!”

Dustin smiled. “I can ask suitable girls for you. I;ve already got an idea.”

Wayne Gilbert cackled mercilessly. “Hey! This time, it is not working like that.”

Dustin gasped.

Wayne explained, “We have to submit a personality test. Then a computer will choose the partners.”

Dustin looked aghast.

Wayne snickered.

Dustin mopaned for despair.

Wayne grunted, “so, you certainly know your sister Zoey fairly well.”

Dustin nodded. “So … so …”

Wayne cackled. “So, you can tell me what to answer in order get get me to date Zoey for the middle school dance!”

Dustin went totally pale in his face. He thought, “Zoey does not deserve the cackling monster.”

And, of course, it would conflict badly with his mission to satisy Evelyn Kwong and save his life from Daisy Lee’s thusly inevitable onslaught.

On the other hand, there was kind of sort of a chance.

Dustin could fool Wayne easily into filling the questionary in Evelyn Kwong’s sense. He sighed, thinking “But what will Wayne Gilbert’s wrath and revenge be like?” Dustin could only hope to be able to hide and run in time.

10.4. Matches

Dustin had received Evelyn Kwong’s results and made Wayne use them.

The freak had appeared to be quite happy. “Wow, I do not even have to feign much!” But of course he did not know the real source of the answers.

And now the results were published.

Wayne felt choking upon seeing the result. “What? Evelyn Kwong?”

Alas, there had been other dismays.

For example, dandy Logan Reese was assigned to bully Dana Cruz.

They were not exactly pleased by this assignment.

Michael Barret’s girl of the evening was actually a boy, an exchanger named Olivary Biallo.[olivary biallo]

Evelyn Kwong actually knew that sucker.

He was really named Jerry Crony, a student at “James K. Polk”. He was afraid of showing his girly hobby, fashion design, in the public.

This secret would however omly be reveiled months later.

Zoey was accidentally assigned two boys, Chase Matthews and Glen Davis[glen davis]
.

Both of the creeps had stolen Zoey’s answers.

Nicole Bristow was assigned to one hitherto unbeknownst bimbo boy named Nicholas Webber[nicholas webber]
.

Quinn Pensky was assigned to Mark del Figgalo.

The reason therefore was very simple.

Mark was unable to do the questionary without Quinn’s help.

The nerd princess had thence abused this shamelessly.

Wayne Gilbert was of course uttermost consternated. “What? Evelyn Kwong? Where is that toad named Dustin Brooks?”

Strangely, Lulu had known about Evelyn’s crush on Wayne for quite some time. But she had never warned him. Only know, upon Wayne’s request, had she dared to reveil the secret. “Maybe you would not make a bad couple, after all?”

Wayne could only cackle for annoyance.

10.5. Dancing Floor

The music was playing.

The partuy hall was now already filled.

Zoey Brooks had decided to come with Glen in order to get to know knnew people. But she failed miserably.

Glen was one disgusting jerk of the worst sort.

Nicole and Nicholas were talking each other’s ears off.

Logan was the usual jerk.

Dana had to stiomp on his feet and make him squeal for exorbitant joy.

Logan Cruz was a ruthless sadomasochist, just like Dana Cruz.

They deeply enjoyed torturing each other and getting tortured by each other.

Michael Barret got annoyed to no end by Olivary Biallo.

But around midnight, the visitor insisted in his duty of praying to the moon.

Michael was glad. In addition, he was supposed to take care of Olivary’s “little sister” Farfalla.

She was neither that little nor Olivary’s sister, though.

Mark del Figgalo was totally boring.

Even Quinn Pensky had come to feel that.

They withdrew from the party after just a few minutes.

So, what happened to Evelyn Kwong and Wayne Gilbert?

For most of the time, Wayne Gilbert kept on hiding from his dancing partner. But he never got very far. Exhausted, he could not help but slouch into a silent corner.

Evelyn finally caught him right there. She glared at the fdreak with flming passion in her cold eyes. “Kiss me, you dork!”

Wayne gasped anmd trembled like an eel. He staryed blushing.

Evelyn pulled him close.

Wayne Gilbert purred and started melting away.

The two of them started dancing very close. They were the last to remain on the dancing floor.

Lulu had been absolutely right about Wayne and Evelyn as a very cute couple.

10.6. After The Ball

Wayne Gilbert was still totally dazed by his sudden overwhelming feelings for super smart and aggressively demanding Evelyn Kwong. He did not understand things anymore. But at least he had got no reason to get mad at Dustin Brooks for having tricked him.

Zoey Brooks,or any of those dumb wenches, were no longer an issue for Wayne.

Alas, Dustin could not know that. He was still convinced of the need of hiding from the freak’s insanely raging wrath.

Only Ashley Blake had pulled him out of his hideout. “Hey! Wayne won’t hurt you! He has no longer got any reason to do so.”

Dustin was still dazed.

Ashley reported about the ball night. “It’s all nice and spice, between Wayne and Evelyn.” She had of course not been there, either.

But her brother Vince had told her about all the things going on there.

Dustin sighed for relief. He could show up again.

Evelyn Kwong would now help and keep Daisy Lee off his ass.

But was Ashley Blake trying to get into his way to Lulu?

Dustin felt insecure.

Lulu had been granted a scholarship and was getting rerady for the great and exciting move to California.

Dustin knew about this and welcomed this change.

But there were still potential stones in their way, at least on the wrong one.

Chapter 11. New Student Lulu

11.1. New Year

The sun came up from the southern Californian coastal hill braes, and it was sending its rays across the camous of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

The summer break was now finally over.

The first days of a new year meant a lot of stress for everyone on the campus.

Some kids had not even yet nbeen assigned a dormitory room.

This was especially valid for students arriving from elsewhere.

Lauren Johnson was one of them. She looked a bit flabberghasted.

Wayne just cackled mercilessly. He left his cousin alone on the campus in order to rush to his pals.

Lulu sighed. “so what?” She shrugged and looked around.

A filthy woman aroyund thirty slouched across the campus, equipped with an almost empty can of ravioli.

Lauren asked her, “hi! I’m new at ‘Pacific Coast Academy’. Whgere do I have to go?”

The matron growled, “hi, I’m Coco, the dorm adviser for the girls.”

Lulu smiled. “Cool, then ypu may direct me to my dorm?” She showed Coco a sheet.

Coco grunted, “sorry! You are not yet assigned a room. Go to Mrs. Burvich[mrs burvich]
!” She showed her to the administration building.

Lulu sighed. She had to drage her belongings all alone across the campus.

11.2. Room Assignment

Two other girls were already waiting in the office.

Those were precisely Zoey Brooks and Nicole Bristow.

Their former third roomie, Dana Cruz, was no longer a student at “Pacific Coast Academy”. Zoey Brooks had been annoyed by Dana’s obnoxiously rude demeanour towards Dustin. The blond Mary Sue could not tolerate such a perversity and suggested unto Dana’s parents to move her abroad, more precisely, to some elitary boarding school in Paris. But she was keeping that a secret.

In any way, the third spot in their dormitory room was now vacant.

Ms. Burvich was going through a list of not yet assigned girls. She was grumpy and shriveled.

Lulu asked carefully, “hello, I haven’t yet gotten my room assigned …”

Ms. Burvich told her rudely to wait in the queue.

Suddenly, Lulu and Vicole crashed into ech other.

Even worse, they fell againts a shelf on the wall containing a carefully composed collection of fragrance flasks.

Ms. Burvich was little pleased.

Zoey sighed deeply.

Mr. Burvich was now no longer willing to grant the girls a choice. “Ms. Brooks, Ms. Bristow … your room mate will be Lola Martinez!”

Nicole and Zoey sighed.

The name was little fun.

They imagined a lazy Mexican matron,

Now it was Lulu’s turn.

Ms. Burvvich growled, “OK, ‘101 Butler Hall’, along with Ms. Samantha Puckett and Ms. Josephine Taylor! Now get your rear out of here!”

Lulu gasped. “‘Rear’ rhymes with ‘here’!”

Ms, Burvich roared again.

Lauren Johnson better ran in order to take cover. She remembered the name “Puckett”. “No, that is Melanie …”

11.3. 101 Butler Hall

Lulu arrived in her dormitory room. “Wow! It’s pink!”

It was time to deal with the luggage.

Lulu had got a lot of it.

Suddenly, the door behind Lulu opened again.

Two monozygotic twin sisters with demonically blond, wavy hair slouched in.

One of them Samantha, was abominably rude.

The other, Melanie, tried hard to get Samanth act in a civilised manner.

But this was not easy.

Melanie was already in her second year. She had already met Lulu for the trials for a scholarship for cheerleaders. This time, alas, she was ony arund in “101 Butler Hall” in order to instruct her evil twin sister Samantha, detention queen at her old school, “Ridgeway” in Seattle.

Sam was totally evil, perverse, and grumpy.

It was not easy to get along with that demon from hell.

Melanie offered Lulu, “call me any time Sam causes troubles!”

Lauren Johnson sighed. “OK!”

Finally, Jo Taylor arrived at their dormitory room. She was a blond future Hollywood star, just like Ashley Blake and, as would turn out later, Lola Martinez. But she was a trifle less arrogant than those.

Fortunately, Sam disappeared. She was totally voracious and was always up for sacking the cafeteria’s storage. Now she needed either a fried chicken or a pork chop. Else she would have gone over the edge and run wild.

11.4. Video Games

Night had fallen.

Logan Reese, the dandy of “Pacific Coast Academy”, had bought the latest fully fledged entertainment system for his lounge and his dormitory room.

Wayne Gilbert was responsible for fixing the electronics. He was not really trustworthy, though.

Lulu hoped to be able play a few video games. She loved those with white knights and princesses.

But There was just a lot of noise.

Dustin was sitting there. After having been paid by Logan Reese for carrying most of the equioment into the lounge, he started playing an arcade racing game. He kept on climbing the levels like crazy.

Zoey Brooks was by no means happy aboout this turn. But she was worried aboutother things.

Lola was acting like a goth girl, making fun of Nicole and Zoey.

Her room mates swallowed the bait wholesale and tried to hide elsewhere.

But sooner or laterm, the disguise would fall apart.

Lulu smiled. “Dustin!”

Unfortunately, the little bugger had to concentrate on his game.

The noise was abominable.

Lulu sighed. She sent Wayne an SMS, asking about the noise and the waste of current. “How much power does the system use?”

Wayne replied, “A little.”

Lulu wondered, “a little?”

Suddenly, the power supply broke down.

Everything went silent.

Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert had boldly underestimated the consumption of power or overestimnated the capacity of the school’s power supplies, whatever.

But the electronic noise was now replaced with the sound of a stampede.

Lulu’s cellular phone shed a little light. But this was no power torch.

Lulu grabbed disappointed Dustin and covered his eyes with her hands. “Guess who?”

Dustin had not got any difficulty. “Lulu?”

Lauren Joshnson smiled in the dark, thence unseen.

But Dustin noticed it anyways, deep inside. He started melting away.

Unfortunately, this was not yet the happy end.

Thye could not yet fess up.

Midnight had seized the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But, for Dustin Brooks and Lauren Johnson, iit was more or less the begin of a new day.

Electric torches flashed.

It was time for Lulu to return to her dormitory room.

Other girls were organising a convoy in the dark in order to cross the campus in a safer way.

Lulu had to join in and hurry up.

But at least Lulu and Dustin would now be able to see each other every day at“Pacific Coast Academy”.

Chapter 12. Halloween Horror

12.1. Haunted Hall

There was one really stupid tradition at “Pacific Coast Academy” for Halloween celebrations.

The freshmen of the high school prepared a haunted house in order to scare the younger kids, especially the elementary school boys, ad nowadays also girls.

Dustin Brooks and Lauren Johnson were among the intended victims.

Logan Reese had assumed the head of this year’s haunted squad. He used a lot of bucks on supplies in order to scare the kids as much as can be. He wanted to see them squeal like crazy and pass out on site.

12.2. Visitors From France

The freshmen were sitting down for lunch.

The boys taunted Nicole.

Lola was not with the others. Today, she was trying out for an important rôle in a horror movie. Lola like this sort of movies.

And Halloween was certainly one of the most appropriate days of the year for that.

Logan fooled the others with fake blood, making especially Nicole shriek.

Suddenly, too foreign visitors showed up. They were talking in French.

But Zoey could not understand them. However, she understood French very well.

There was something rotten in the state of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Beverly, the school secretary, introduced the visitors as Monique Chaumont and her husband André.[chaumont], teachers at a boarding school in France.

The solution was simple.

The school of the Chaumonts was that of Dana Cruz.

Zoey knew that very well. She had gotten Dana transferred to Paris. And she wanted to hide this. For that avail, she had to avoid talking to the visitors from France, rigorously at any cost.

12.3. Disguises

The pupils walked around in various disguises.

Blond Mary Sue Zoey Brooks was disguised as Marilyn Monroe, a busty blond actress from several decades ago.

Kansas wench Nicole Bristow was dressed as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz[wizard of oz], with a tin axe stuck in her back.

Michael Barret was disguised as a zombie.

Chase Matthews looked like a sorcerer, but claimed to be a vampire.

Nobody believed Chase’s disguise, though.

Quinn Pensky was dressed as deceased scientist Albert Einstein. She had also planned to disguise Mark del Figgalo as a mummy. She thus forced Tim to desis from that.

12.4. The Mansion

The haunted house was now open.

Logan promised them the horror odf their life, not to be forgotten during the following centuries.

Zoey was disgusted by Logan’s arrogance.

Michael had to stay outside an dwait for another delivery wan with more supplies for the mansion of horror.

Nicole was hunting after some cute boys and missed out on the mansion, too. More precisely, she had seen a cute boy, Tim[tim], dress as an Egyptian mummy. Now she was hunting him down.

Dustin should have visited the mansion, too.

But Lauren had fogotten her disguise.

And Dustin wanted to be with Lulu.

Zoey shook her head. She had prepared something in order to make Logan pay for his arrogance.

But this was now impossible without Dustin’s help.

Zoey sighed for disappointment.

12.5. Zombie Hunt

Dustin and Lulu strolled the campus.

Lulu declared, “vampires and werewolves only exist in comics, don’t they?”

Dustin nodded timidly. “I’ve heard so!” But he shuddered.

Lauren did not really believe in her previous words.

The two of them held hands in order to encourgage each other to stand through the night.

Michael crossed their way. He had got no time. He was followed by Monique and André.

The French teachers did not know about Michael being disguised. They mistook him for a badly injured guy and wanted to take him to hospital.

Dustin and Lauren laughed. A few steps later, they crashed into aimlessly staggering Mark del Figgalo.

The “mummy” slumped mercilessly to the pavement.

Lulu called Quinn with her cellular phone.

The geek princes walked up to them. “Mark! I told you to be more careful when roaming the campus in your disguise!”

Mark could not even talk with all those smelly bandages.

Quinn applied some special resolver. “I’ve used Grizzly clue[grizzly clue] in order to fix the bandages. This resolver is very powerful and unique!”

Finally, the bandages were loose.

Quinn freed Mark from his disguise and cured his wounds.

Mark complained, “Nicole wanted to kiss me.”

Quinn gasped. “Where is that loose bitch? She may dig her own tomb!” She jumped up and was looking for the wench from Kansas.

Lulu and Dustin continued Quinn’s work.

Mark was still dismayed. “It has been totally sticky in there.”

Dustin nodded solemnly.

Lulu offered tp go to the next lounge and fetch him some water.

Mark nodded timidly.

Dustin stayed by del Figgalo’s sight.

A few minutes later, Lulu was back. “There was no water, so I fixed some blix.”

Blix was some ubiquitous soft drink available at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Dustin gave Mark to drink. He had to be very careful in order to avoid the precious drink to get spilled and splattered all over the place.

Mark was not unlikely to do that.

Lulu explained, “Michael was in the lounge too. The French guys have finally caught him there.”

Dustin gaspoed. “Oops! So they are now taking himto hospital?”

Lulu shook her head.

Dustin sighed for relief.

Lulu explained, “I told them about the infirmary and showed them their way.”

Dustin gasped. “Poor Michael! But he has deserved it.”

Lulu smiled.

Michael would be treated by the evil nurse with syringes with endlessly long needles before turning out as just disguised.

His screams would be heard across the whole campus.

That was real halloween horror!

Quinn had found Nicole on the campus.

The bimbo wench had fortunately found another victim.

Wayne Gilbert was disguised as young Chackie Chun, martial artist and stunt actor of great fame. He looked really hot in his disguise, making Nicole go crazy for him.

Quinn did not bother her.

Nicole would receive her just award upon removal of Wayne’s mask. And she would scream even loiuder than Michael.

That was even more true Halloween horror,

Dustin and Lulu returned to the haunted house.

The kids were now already through it.

But what was there?

Some of their friends had passed out, including Chase Matthews.

Even Zoey was feeling thoroughly nauseous. She puked all ove rthe place.

Logan was laughing like a maniac.

Ashley Blake, on the other hand, remained as cold as ice. “Lola Martinez had been there, acting as a bleeding and screaming corpse. I have of course seen behind the disguise. Lola can’t fool me!”

Indeed, this had been Lola’s audition for a rôle in one of the next horror movies by Logan’s father, Malcolm Reese, the emperor of Hollywood.

She had now passed these auditions very well.

Ashley would have preferred to be in her place. Now she would just have to work harder on getting through to Logan Reese. And she looked about ways to use Dustin for that purpose.

The latter was worried about his elder sister. And he was swearing to get back at the perverse dandy.

Chapter 13. Evil Girl

13.1. Chemistry

During this year, the pupils of the fifth and the sixth grades of “Pacific Coast Academy” shared science laboratory classes.

This was due to some glitch in the schedules.

Their teacher was Mr. Gangrel[gangrel]. He was totally lame and could not hold the dimmest candle to Mr. Jamerson.

The good thing about theis arrangement was the following:

Lab classes were the only ones uniting Dustin and Lulu.

One would have to think of the sixth grade students being more responsible than those of the fifth grade.

But … bear with it!

Inspite of her wonderful rote memory, Lulu was a bit inattentive, due to ADHS.

But Trisha Kirby alias Samantha Puckett, cousin of Ann “Pinky” Turzo, was really bad.

Unfortunately, they had been assigned as lab partners.

Trisha loved explosions and obnoxious stenches to no end. For that avail, she never stuck to instructions given by the teacher or the general lab rules. Abusing Lulu’s tendency towards getting eaily distracted, she snuck one or the other totally inappropriate chemical into the mix.

Mr. Gangrel should have separated them. He was now already pondering using Dustin as a watch dog for Trisha.

Zoey’s little brother was by far the most responsible of the kids.

But now it was too late.

Bang!

A hideous stench filled the air.

The kids coughed and choked.

Dustin rushed to the emergency button and pushed it soundly, just before seeing the world turn black in frontr of his eyes. Then he cringed, floundered, staggered, keeled over, and skumped mercilessly onto the floor.

The alert bells rang out.

Mr. Gangrel passed out from the stench.

The fire brigades and the emergency medics were informed.

Emergency teams were sent at the speed of light.

13.2. Doc Hollywood

Within two minutes, the campus was totally seized by rampant fits of excessive panic.

Zoey Brooks was totally consternated upon hearing the striking medssage about the totally catastrophic accident in Dustin’s laboratory classes. She needed to visit her little brother as soon as possible, and would ruthlessly do anything neceesary to make it there. “Where is Dustin? Will he survive?”

Lola and Nicole tried hard to keep her from running amok. They were not really knowing what they were doing.

Quinn had notgot another choice left. She was forced to use one of her inventions, a mix of various spices and essential oils, in order to make Zoey loose her consciousness for the time being.

Otherwise the blond Mary Suee would have been wreaking some totally uncontrollable amount of havoc.

Quinn had got a license as a junior medic from Dr. Hollywood[dr hollywood], a graduate from UCLA medical school.

Said Doc Hollywood was also on the way to the victims.

Chief Becker[chief becker] and officer Vega[officer vega] were responsible for the control of the situation.

Insane students blocking the ways of the emergency troops had to be subdued with laughing gas.

Doc Hollywood wore a gas mask and carried a large emergency suitcase.

Equipped in a similar manner, Quinn followed her mentor.

Using a new megaphone, Dean Rivers tried hard to tell the students out on the campus to keep quiet. But he was only moderately successful.

13.3. The Skunk

The malodiorous gas released by the accident in the laboratory were not the only ones of the day.

A few hours ago, Michael Barret and Logan Reese had been curiously searching through the bushes, alerted by a kitten cry.

But that “kitten” was really a skunk.

Chase and Michael were now covered all over by some incredibly hideous stink. They were looking for relief.

According to rumours, tomato juice was known to help. Thus they snuck into the cafeteria in order to grab tomato juice from the storage.

Logan would just have to bribe the guards to get in their.

But the catastrophic laboratory accident had changed the situation.

The cafeteria storage was barred off by the ABC troop of the army under the direction of Commander Robinson[commander robinson]
.

Contamination with toxic gases from the accident had to be avoided rigorously at any cost.

Even worse for them: The stemch of their clothes made them look like victiims of teh laboratory accident.

Michael and Logan were thus grabbed by the security guards, against their vigorous objections, and dragged rudely to the other kids.

The chemical power bath was now awaiting them.

13.4. Consequences

Logan and Michael squealed and whimpered in agiony upon getting exposed to the even more malodorous steam used in order to neutralise the effects of the toxic haze developed by the laboratory accident.

The real victins of teh accident did not notice much of it. They were still in a comatose state.

As Michael and Logan had not been really exposed to the smoke and fog from the laboratory explosion, and the smelly exhaust fumes of the skunk were something chemically toatlly different from those, these worthless big boys did not get rid of their stink.

Unfortunately, this caused some the emergency medics to apply more and more of the neutraliser to their skin.

Michael and Logan screamed more and more.

Only after two hours did Quinn Pensky notice the proper reason. “Those are high school kids, not victims of the laboratory accident.”

The foolish security guards looked totally dumbfounded.

Doc Hollywood confirmed the diagnosis.

But now it was already much too late.

Michael’s and Logan’s skin were already looking uncomely and mutilated all over.

Quinn could finally do something about their stink. She had recently invented a vary efficient essence against the skunk’s perfect fragrance.

Unfortunately, her deodoriser had got one not exactly pleasant side effect: It dissolved polymers.

And some of the clothes of Logan and Michael consisted of synthetic fibres, such as nylon and polyester.

Those were now dissolving over the course of the following hours.

Nude Michael and Logan turned into the laughing stock of the whole infirmary.

Almost no girl would want to date any of them anymore, at least not during the following months.

At the same time, Zoey was happy to hug her recovering little brother again.

Lauren would be treated against the symptoms of ADHS by Dr. Lowe[dr lowe]
from “James K. Polk”.

Samantha Puckett would be expelled from “Pacific Coast Academy” and sent back to “Ridgeway” in Seattle.

Mr. Gangrel gave up on his job.

Upon Lauren’s recommendation, Mr. Jamerson would be hired as a new teacher for science at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Dean Rivers also hired custodian Gordy from “James K. Polk”, a renowned wesel hunter, in order to catch the skunk.

Dustin and Lulu would work as partners in lab classes.

Chapter 14. Vampire State Building

14.1. Chicken Pox

With many kids crowded together all day long in one big camp, typical kids; diseases used to spread like wildfire across the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

This time, an epidemic wave of chicken pox was flooding the grounds of this elitary boarding school.

This occurred only a few weeks after the horrible accident in Dustin’s and Lulu’s laboratory classes.

Fortunately, Lulu had already got the chicken pox earlier in her life.

But Dustin was a different case. Now he was forced to spend a few days in the infirmary.

Fortunately, Zoey was already resistent. She could thus visit Dustin every day.

Lulu could have done that, do. But she wanted more. She wanted to lie in the infirmary next to Dustin. She even dared to paint her skin with fake chicken pox pimples in order to get into the nurses’ station.

But her roomies had noticed the fraud and informed Coco Wexler, spoiling the plan.

The dorm adviser would have squealed for panic and started wreaking an insane amount of havoc otherwise.

Lulu sigehd deeply.

Zoey shook her head upon hearing about that coincidence.

14.2. The Roof Top

The girls of the high school segment of “Pacific Coast Academy” had got another problem.

The top of the roof of the boys’ residence hall, “Maxwell Hall”, had been a popular place to hang out.

The girls’ hall, “Brenner Hall”, had got a roof too, too.

But some giant californian oak grew next to it.

The twigs and branches of the mighty tree offered shelter for many squirrels with excrements stinking up the hole roof. They also blocked out almost all of the sun light at certain times of the day, especially the most popular ones for hanging out, i.e. after classes.

For that avauil, the girls, including especially Zoey Brooks, Nicole Bristow, and Lola Martinez, preferred to use the boys’ roof top.

But there was now one problem.

Logan Reese had instigated all the other boys into denying unto the girls the access to the roof.

His arguments were foul and disgusting.

According to Logan, boys could not be themselves in the presence of girls.

That was part of biology.

But Logan would hardly have been the one to know zilch about biology.

Lulu tried to talk to her cousin Wayne about it.

But he did not really answer, just cackle.

This was hardly surprising.

Wayne and his pals were still locking out the girls from their science club, especially Quinn Pensky. He did not use Logan’s stupid excuses. He just deemed them spazzes. “We are participating in the battle droid league. Quinn would just be in our way.”

Lulu wondered, “so, what about Evelyn?”

Wayne stammered, “er … Evelyn doesn’t care much about technology.”

Lulu grinned. “Wrong!”

Wayne Gilbert looked aghast.

Lulu snickered. “Have you looked at your schedule for the robot league?”

Wayne just cackled.

Lulu panted. “OK, one of your next opponents is the team of ‘James K. Polk’. They have not yet tasted defeat.”

Wayne shrugged. “And so?”

Lulu boomed emphatically, “and their team consists of Simon Nelson Cooke, Albert Wormenheimer, Lance Widget, Lisa Zemo, and … last but not least … Evelyn Kwong!”

Wayne glared consternated.

Lulu grinned. “they use something like liquid nitrogen, whatever that is.” She scratched her head.

Wayne shivered for fear.

Lulu whispered, “but maybe you prefer losing out badly.”

Wayne grunted, “no way!” He decided to need all smartasses at “Pacific Coast Academy” able to help him, including Quinn Pensky.

14.3. Suspicious

Zoey Brooks, Nicole Bristow, and Lola Martinez had got a plan. They wanted to dress Lola as a boy and make him stay in the boys’ dormitory room and on the top of their roof, just to show Logan utterly wrong.

Lola was the perfect actress, besides Ashley, a victin of the chicken pox.

And this was a perfect rôle.

The costume storage of teh drama club, had got everything necessary.

Quinn would just have to hide a microchip in Lola’s outfit.

But there was one problem.

They needed to get one of the boys to leave his dormitory room, and leave a free spot for Lola.

But after the horrible ewxperiences with the nurse, Michael too much scared of that plan.

Lulu remarked, “according to my friend Ryan, Logan is an alien spy. The roof top is a secret landing place for his alien comrades.”

Zoey chuckled.

Nicole wondered, “are aliens cute?”

Lola sighd. “alien boys aren’t really that cute, only in disguise.”

Nicole shuddered for disgust.

Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert actually liked Ryan’s idea. He was so much reminded to scenes from some of his favourite action toons. He believed in aliens coming to land on top of the empire state building, some day. Now he suggested to control the roof with a secret camera.

Zoey ddid not believe in an alien invasion or in Logan being a spy. “But something fishy is going on up there!”

Everyone agreed on performing more thorough observations with a hidden camera.

Lola was now still disguised a s a boy, but just in order to be able to make it to the roof of “Maxwell hall” and then attach the spying equipment.

14.4. Nightly Observations

The moon was on its bright side.

Quinn’s and Wayne’s espionage system was working greatly.

They had even added some improved night vision in order to be rather independent from moon phases and from clouds.

The girls were watching things gping on by using Quinn’s laptop.

All of a sudden, Logan showed up on the top of the roof.

Nicole sighed. “Isn’t Logan cute in the moon light?”

Lola and Zoey did not care.

Zoey grinned. “There is something fishy! Hey! What is that?”

Lola looked closer. “Since when has Logan got wings?”

The dandy started flying. He didn’t get far and plummetedmercilessly to the floor. But he tried again, over and over.

Lola gasped, “that’s what vampires do!”

Zoey still did not want to believe.

14.5. Logan The Vampire

Wayne Gilbert deemed the theory of vampires totally possible. “I have to find out what vampire sect Logan belongs to!”

Lulu did not know what to do. “Do vampires only appear in toons?”

Zoey shrugged. She did not want to believe it. But maybe she had to.

In any case, the kids had to be careful.

Logan was the greatest danger for about anyone on the campus.

The girls decided to watch the sucker as carefully as can be.

Zoey was especially worried about Dustin’s health.

Logan could hurt him badly, vampire or not.

14.6. Robot War

A new era was starting at the science club of “Pacific Coast Academy”, the era of giirls and boys working together, side by side.

Down to Quinn’s participation in the science club, Wayne had been able to improve his battle robot signofocantly.

Quinn had especially added some laser weapon.

This made their battle droid, the “Quinnterruptor”, a whole lot more powerful than Wayne’s harmless creeping heap of junk.

Was this enough to defeat the worst opponents, the team from “James K. Polk” and the team from “Belleview”?

Time would tell.

Chapter 15. Kissing Practice

15.1. Lola’s Tutor

Lola Martinez was in need of tutoring for biology.

Or so ut seemed.

But Lola was a very cunning actress. She could people make believe the most absurd lies, just in order to get the things really desired. For example, she had already invented some hhundreds of lies since the very beginning of the year in order to get around this or the other homework. And she had always found a way to find some horrible pain in order to avoid having to show up in gym classes and start sweating.

Ashley Blake was by no means really different.

Dustin Brooks had noticed and learned this thoroughly during the last year. For this vail, he had always become very suspicious of Lola’s motivations.

Lulu remarked, “do you know what Ryan thinks about Lola?”

Duustin shook his head.

Lola whispoered, “she’s a Russian spy. All the Russian spies look really hot and stuff. He knows that from movies which are not cartoons!”

Dustin gasped. “Oh, that would be very bad. Lola a Russian spy?” He started shivering. “And Chase is going to tutor her in biology.”

Lulu sighed. “Chase might be in danger.”

Dustin nodded. “We have to watch them carefully!”

15.2. About Flowers And Bees

Chase and Lola had agreed on tutoring in the botanic garden of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Lulu and Dustin had come to hear about this. Now they were hiding beyond some of the shrubberies.

Chase and Lola were looking at some text book.

Dustin recognised it. “A fifth grade textbook. Lola is a ninth grader! That doesn’t sound right!”

Lulu gaped. “There’s something rotten in the state of Sweden.”

Dustin corrected Lulu, “Denmark!”

Lulu sighed. “That too!”

Chase explained the pistils and the poll bags of a flower. “The most important ways for getting the polls to the pistil are …”

Lola shrugged. “A messenger of some sorts?”

Dustin chuckled.

Chase made Lola read the chapter in the text book again. “Wind, water, birds, and insects!”

Lola repeated that.

Lulu blushed. “They are talking about the birds and the bees, and the flowers and the trees.”

Dustin blushed even deeper.

Lola feigned not understanding zilch.

Chase made Lola learn the text, just like telling an actress to learn the scrpt for her rôle. As a future playwright, Chase was predestined for letting Lola do this. In fact, he dressed in in a little rôle.

Lola was now acting as Felicia, the awesome student of biology.

This worked out pretty well.

They were going to meet again.

15.3. Lola Dates Chase

Dustin and Lulu had been left with a creepy feeling.

Lulu concluded, “the flower and be stuff, that is totally seductive. It’s just like the Russina spie seducing our best agents and then backstab them.”

Dustin shwared this opinion completely. He had to save Chase.

Things were even more urgent.

According to bubbly Nicole Bristow, Lola had just begged for Zoey’s permission to date Chase.

Dustin choked. “What did my sister answer?”

Nicole replaied, “oh, Zoey is totally OK with it.”

Lulu deemed this even worse. “It’s now so obvious what Lola is up to!”

Dustin nodded. “Lola could have each and every boy. And she is always into good kissers.”

Dustin remembered that dearly. “Oh, yeah! Chase is a miserable kisser.”

Lulu agreed wholeheartedly. “Good kissers have not got a bushy head.”

Dustin nodded vigorously. “Lola would never date him without exorbitantly bad second thoughts.”

“Of course not,” confirmed Lulu. “She’s a Russian spy! Hey, my cousin Wayne sure knows something about espionage. There are some spies in his cartoons, or so.”

Dustin nodded solemnly. “His cartoons are chock full of these.”

Indeed, Wayne “Firewire” Gilbert would be very much interested in that topic.

15.4. Ashley’s Explanation

Ashley Blake stumbled into Dustin’s lounge.

Zoey’s little brother had asked her for some stuff from the costume storage.

Ashley gave him a bag. “Good luck with your espionage outfit.”

Dustin went pale. “How do you know?”

Ashley shook her head. She knew the costume storage very well, better than maybe even Lola Martinez.

Lulu walked in.

Dustin showed her the equipment.

Lulu reported, “According to Nicole, Zoey is very much annoyed by Lola’s and Chase’s dates.”

Dustin sighed. “Why did she allow them to date in the first place? And why did Lola have to ask her for her permission?”

Lulu guessed. “She did not take Lola serious … maybe.”

Dustin moaned, “yeah, nobody takes a good spy serious, until it’s too late.”

Lulu nodded. “We need to strike in the right moment and deliver Lola to the FBI.”

Dustin continued, “and the Air Force!”

Lulu agreed. “Commander Robinson[commander robinson]
will throw bombs at Lola!”

Dustin smiled. “Right onto her head. Boom! Bang!”

“Capital strike!” Lulu cheered fanatically.

Ashley listened to them. She shook her head. “Oh my gosh! Lola is much too naïve and too harmless to be a Russian spy.”

Dustin and Lulu were still of a more or less different opinion.

Ashley shook her head and grinned in a satanic manner. “Lola does abuse Chase for egotistical purposes, but she is totally harmless.”

Dustin and Lulu looked totally dumbfounded.

Ashley explained, “Lola is applying for a rôle in a movie named I Kiss A Dweeb by Malcolm Reese.”

Dustin and Lulu shrugged cluelessly.

Ashley continued, “in order to practise appropriately, Lola needs to learn kiss a dweeb. And how does she go and learn it? By seducing Chase Bartholomew Matthews. You get it?”

Dustin nodded slowly.

Lulu sighed. “That’s really mean, anyways.”

Dustin wondered, “have you already practised the same thing for that movie?”

Ashley shook her head. “Not yet. In two years probably … an actress may not always choose the partner. But she needs to be prepared for doing disgusting stuff like that.” She mplastered a smile colder than the antarctic winter.

Dustin sighed. “But now we have to warn Chase!”

Unfortunately, Ashley stood in his way. “Hey! Don’t do that!”

Lulu complained, “but he will get his heart broken.”

Ashley shrugged. “First, Chase is probably still into Zoey, and just too much of a coward to admit to it. And”

Dustin nodded solemnly. “That makes sense, a whole lot of sense.” He remembered Chase’s play about alien girl Zorka, a script written for the sole purpose of getting himself and Zoey to make out.

Ashley continued, “even if Chase feels hurt … the movie may be a big success, and Chase will have contributed to this as Lola’s sparring partner. He will be a hell of prousd of this.”

Dustin and Lulu looked dumbfounded.

That was probably so true.

They decided to refrain from intervening.

But was Chase still into Zoey? In any case, Chase would ternminate this temptative relationship with Lola pretty soon. He would talk about a girl from his hometown.

Fact or white lie?

Time would tell.

Chapter 16. Spring At PCA

16.1. Logan Goes To France

Spring Break was now just around the corner.

And the students of “Pacific Coast Academy” were seized by some shocking news.

Dandy Logan Reese would no longer be one of them, at least not after the impending spring break. When visiting Michael in the infirmary after the haunted Halloween house, he had also noticed Zoey Brooks talking with Monique and André Chaumont … using perfect French!

They had been feeling safe and not watched.

Of course even Logan was able to notice such a striking kind of absurdity.

Half a day ago, Zoey had pretended believably to be not able to understand the words of the French visitors.

Logan himself did not understand French well enough to be able to follow their talk. But he had been able to catch one important word, repeated over and over again, and not a French word.

Zoey had repeatedly been mentioning “Dana”.

Logan just had to connect the loose ends.

Dana Cruz was now studying at the school of Monique and André Chaumont.

Logan had bribed Miles Brody into serving him as an interpreter.

A conversation with the foreign visitors had confirmed the suspicious moments.

Zoey Brooks and the Chaumonts had been very familiar for almost a year.

And Dana was now so far away, at said boarding school in France, across the mighty Atlantic.

Logan Reese needed badly to contact Dana Cruz. He was sooner or later going to go insane without her. He had maybe got four years to go, at most.

The reason was quite simple:

At last year’s school dance, vampire princes Dana Cruz had bit Logan Reese with her venomous fangs.

Now Logan had thence become a vampire and was also fatally addicted to Dana. He just had to be with her in order to survive for more than a few years.

Lest certain things would be likely to happen … very bad things.

The reaction of the other kids were diverse.

For example, Nicole Bristow was sad about the loss of a cute boy.

Zoey Brooks would miss Logan. But she was glad about one jerk less.

Dustin sighed somewhat for relief.

Being acquainted with Logan Reese had been somewhat detrimental for his peace.

Ashley Blake, for example, had been using him as a means of getting closer to Logan.

Basically, Daisy Lee had done the same.

Fortunately, Evelyn Kwong, satisfied by her date with Wayne Gilbert, had been able to keep Daisy Lee’s and fangs off Dustin’s throat.

Oops!

Was Daisy a vampire?

Dustin shivered for excessive fear. “Am I now really safe from Daisy, or even Ashley?”

16.2. Spring Break

The spring break had been exciting.

Nicole Bristow, Zoey Brooks, and Lola Martinez had been able to sneak tickets for a concert of Drake Parker in Hollywood.

Dustin could not join them.

The concert was only deemed suitable for kids of thirteen years and above.

The upcoming spring would see important matches of the war robot league.

For that avail, Wayne Gilbert and Quinn Pensky were training hard during sping break.

Chase and Michael were left alone.

Chase was moaning all night long.

Was his silent crush on Zoey Brooks the reason?

Dustin was really annoyed by Chase’s lovesick demeanour.

16.3. Mindy Crenshaw

Spring break was gone.

Spring was said to be a new begin of amny things.

For sure, a life at “Pacific Coast Academy” without Logan Reese was something completely different from one with Logan Reese.

Today, there was the great robot war death match against the team of “Belleview.”

The encounter took place on the campus of the latter school.

Lulu and Dustin had been allowed to join their team as cheering onlookers.

Quinn Pensky and Wayne Gilbert were ready to take on any competitor.

Onlooking Dustin remembered vaguely having seen the operator of the war robot of the team of Belleview.

The latter had already been at “Pacific Coast Academy” for a few days. Here, she was introduced as Mindy Crenshaw[mindy crenshaw].

Dustin shrugged.

Lulu suspected, “maybe she is a Russian spy? Or so would Ryan say.”

Dustin supposed, “she must have spied on Quinn and Wayne in order to beat them.”

Mindy’s consorts wer Joshuah Nichols, Eric Blonowitz, and Craig Ramirez.

The umpire was Mr. Sweeny from “James K. Polk”. He grinned sadistically. “Five … four … three … two”

The kids had been waiting for the “one”.

But the latter never came up.

The combat started anyeways.

Laser beams shot forth from both of the war robots, obliterating each others within a second.

Mr. Sweeny gasped. He rewatched the whole scene by means of a video record.

But he could not make out a definite winner.

Both of the war robots had probably been knocked out in the same moment.

This was a draw.

Dustin and Lulu sighed.

Lulu declared, “without that soy, you would probably have won!”

Dustin nodded solemnly. “Cheaters,” yelled he at the very top of his lungs.

16.4. Smoked Tuna

The war robot team was returning to the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy” in the middle of the night.

But there was something smelling fishy.

The bus was denied entrance to the parking lot.

The whole passage was claimed by the fire brigades.

Chief Donker[chief donker] was not willing to let them pass before …

The kids were seized by panic.

What was going on on the campus?

Ashley Blake had broken through the barricades. “The freshmen of the high school have incinerated ‘Sushi Rox’.”

Dustin gasped. “Zoey?”

Ashley boomed, “yeah, your favourite sister, that dern Mary Sue hass ruined the only decent restaurant at ‘Pacific Coast Academy’.”

Dustin wanted to run to his sister. But he was not let through.

The fire was under control.

No people had been injured by the accident.

But “Sushi Rox” was now nothing but a billowing cloud of smoke and a heap of smouldering ashes.

16.5. Mourning For Sushi Rox

Kazu did not have the necessary resources for the restoration of his Japanese pub.

And the kids could not do anything.

It had really been a stupid accident.

Zoey had ordered tempura rolls just before curfew.

Kazu had needed to rekindle his stove. But he had been distracted by Chase.

The latter had been busy delivering the last sushi rolls of the evening. But he had stumbled and fallen downstairs.

This had been enough to cause the accident.

Now it was too late.

The freshmen tried to find a way to restore “Sushi Rox”.

But how was that possible without the money of Logan Reese, now no longer a student at “Pacific Coast Academy”?

16.6. White Knight

Two days later, some interested person showed up on the campus, willing to buy and take over “Sushi Rox”.

Dustin and Lulu gasped.

The new potential owner of the campus pub was no other but Mrs. Lee! She was successfully negotiating with Dean Rivers.

This would also imply the signing up of a new student for “Pacific Coast Academy”: Daisy Lee!

Not even Evelyn Kwong would have been able to prevent that from coming.

Spring was thus also the begin of a new era at “Pacific Coast Academy”: The era of Mrs. Lee and “Sushi Rox”.

But what would become of Kazu?

Dustin and Lulu hoped him to stay as an employee of “Wok Star”.

Was that really a possibility?

Asiatic business was very much a subject of family tradition.

People from outside a family were not really meant to be eligible for leading positions.

Chapter 17. Stable Search

17.1. Depressive Alpaca

According to the old fashioned rules of the school, pets were strictly illegal on the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But this stupid rule had never been able to prevent Quinn Pensky from keeping little pets for her zoological studies, such as rats[quinns rat]
, bird spiders[quinns spider]
, and king snakes[quinns snake]
.

Those beasts were small enough to be hidden from the eyes of perversely dumb dormitory adviser Coco Wexler.

Alas, this was not exactly valid for Quinn Pensky’s biggest pet.

Otis was an alpaca, i.e. somethinh like a llama, but slightly different. It had been left behind in Seattle.

This had been a big sacrifice.

Quinn was now becoming slowly aware of it.

In a video chat with her parents, Otis appeared as suffering from depressions.

This had been confirmed even by Dr. Lang[dr lang]
, the veterinary surgeon responsible for Otis.

For Quinn, this situation was hard to bear. She could not see her loyal pet suffer like this. Needless to say, she was turning equally sad.

17.2. Alpaca Party

Zoey Brooks, Nicole Bristow, and Lola Martinez were really worried about Quinn Pensky. For that avail, they had organised a party.

This event included an apaca shaped party cake, a video chat with Quinn’s parents and Otis, and Mark del Figgalo dressed as an alpaca.

Unfortunately, Lola had not been able to find an alapaca costume in her costume storage.

For that avail, Mark had been stuffed into an ant eater’s costume, the only one available in Mark’s size. He was not aware of the difference.

The heat in the furry outfit, however, was hardly bearable.

And this would have been the same in about any animal costume.

But Mark had to do this sacrifice in order to help his “girlfriend” Quinn.

Or so decided Zoey, Lola, and Nicole.

Alas, everything was in vain.

Nothing could dissuade Quinn from running away in order to look for her beloved Otis.

Once more, leaving the campus during the semester without prior permission by both her parents and Dean Rivers was strictly against the rules, leading most likely to detention, suspension and even expulsion, depending on the mood of Dean Rivers.

It was basically a matter of insurance.

Accidents of the kids were only covered in the case of being under the supervision by the headmaster, the teachers, or other assigned responsible adults.

Zoey Brooks and her room mates were now looking all over the place. They had to find Quinn in time.

17.3. Looking For A Solution

Dustin and Lulu were discussing the situation in their lounge.

Lulu sighed deeply. “Alpacas are really cute. They are so furry and fluffy. I just hate smaller beasts, such as pigeons.” She shuddered for disgust.

Dustin sighed deeply. “We need to find a place for Otis to stay, not too far from here.”

Lulu nodded solemnly. “Wayne is already angry. The important match of the war robots against the team of ‘James K. Polk’ is just around the corner. And without a sane Quinn, all hopes should be considered as lost.”

Dustin sighed deeply.

Along came Ashley Blake. She grinned insanely.

Lulu grunted, “hey! It’s really sad.”

Ashley shrugged. “My friend Megan has once got a zebra[megans zebra]
.”

Dustin gasped. “A zebra?”

Lulu explained, “those are like horses, just with stripes. It’s similar to llamas versus alpacas.”

Dustin knew that.

Ashley cackled. “She had bought it on the interweb. For two weeks, she had been able to force Drake and Josh to hide and feed it. But then she had to give it away.” She panted heavily. “Now it is at some horse ranch not far from here.” Ashley did not know any details.

But Dustin and Lulu deemed it worth some further thoughts.

17.4. Faye Dunnaway[faye dunnaway]

A gentle breeze swept across the coastal hill chains of Southern California.

Dustin and Lulu had just arrived at a horse ranch not far from the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”, with the permission of Dean Rivers.

The owner of the farm was one Faye Dunnaway. She was already hosting several other bigger mammals of various city dwellers.

Megan Parker’s zebra was just one of them.

Dustin and Lulu were equipped with a digital web cam. They were up to ,aking a short video in order to present it to Quinn Pensky.

Faye admitted to never having hosted an alpaca. “But it sounds fairly interesting!” She gaggle strangely and was finally going to guide Dustin and Lulu on a tour around the fine stables and across the green pastry.

There were really quite a few strange animals.

But one of them was particularly interesting: A talking pony[talking pony]
.

Lulu’s eyes bugged out on site.

The pony sang about its love for pan cakes.

Dustin and Lulu glared at each other.

Faye Dunnawaye explained, “this pony belongs to some rocking rock and pop group managed by Gustavo Rocque, the greatest rock record producer ever.”

Dustin and Lulu swooned endlessly.

Faye talked abbout the prices and condition for hosting Otis.

Lulu would beat Quinn into accepting them, regardless of the price. She was totally obsessed with the talking pony and wanted to ride it.

17.5. Robot Clash

Having found a place for Otis to stay, and close enough for occasional weekend visits, Quinn’s depressions had worn down really fast.

Quinn Pensky was now rigged and ready for the last battle of the season in the battle robot league.

For Wayne Gilbert, this was a particularly exciting event.

He would have to oppose his lover girl Evelyn.

This time, the empire was a certain Cal[cal]
from “California Institute For Technology”.

Evelyn and Wayne glared at each other.

Fortunately neither of them had been in charge with the remote control.

Quinn Pensky and Simon Nelson Cooke were in those responsible positions.

Cal opened the death match.

Many weapons got fired.

Many manoeuvres got executed.

There were flying shrapnels, acid streams, beam weapons, sonic disruptors, and more.

Both sides had put a lot of efforts into the whole contest.

Fans of both teams kept on cheering from the sidelines and the lodges.

The little robots were apparently well protected.

After over an hour, there was still no winner.

Dustin wondered about a time limit.

There was still no sign of exhaustion.

Wayne and Evelyn kept on glaring at each others. Finally, they were unable from to keep the tension and ran into each other’s arms. They blushed deeply.

Their team pals were consternated and told them to leave the battle zone.

Lulu cheered for Wayne. “Make love, not war!”

Cal grinned. “It’s a tie!” He panted and sweated. Then he grinned at the love birds and withdrew.

Maybe Lulu had been right.

Quinn accepted the decision. She would now be faster with Otis.

Lulu and Dustin smiled sweetley and started blushing as well.

Chapter 18. Rebecca[rebecca]

Summer break had bee too short for some kids, but too long for others such as Dustin Brooks and Lauren Johnson.

But now it was time for the kids to return to “Pacific Coast Academy”.

The campus was bathed in the warming light of the red hot southern Californian August sun. It was now chock full with returning kids and some accompanying adults, like each year at this very day.

Dustin was arriving of course with Zoey.

The blond Mary Sue was burdened with a lot of luggage, including a plush squid.

Fortunately, Dustin was helping her.

But this worked only up to a certain point.

Lulu and Wayne crossed the campus.

Dustin saw that, and he was now no longer to stop.

Zoey protested. But she had to keep on moving. “Call me any time, Dustin!” She moaned due to her load.

Dustin and Lulu strolled teh campus, talking about their summer breaks. They had been in various summer camps.

Suddenly, a certain event stabbed the eyes of the middle school kids.

Chase Bartholomew Matthews was crossing the campus. He was equally loaded, carrying for example his guitar and a bouquet of golf clubs. But he was not really alone.

Some busty Latina followed him around.

Dustin and Lulu choked.

Lulu tried to play itdown. “Maybe she’s his sister!”

Dustin could not elieve that. “His sister would not be a hot Latina.”

Lulu nodded solemnly. “I know! I have just tried to talk myself awake.” She must have thought of dreaming.

Dustin understood that. “Chase and such a girlfriend are too hard to believe.”

Lola had dated a dweeblike Chase just for acting practice.

This girl, a Latina like Lola but even hotter, was unlikely much different.

Lulu scratched her hair. “According to Ryan, girls like these should be considered as Russian spies.”

Dustin choked hard.

In any case, they had to be careful and stay in control of the situation. They decided to follow Chase and the criolla around, in a really secret manner.

Chase talked a lot about the campus and “Pacific Coast Academy”. “You get accustomed to the pools and the beach.” They reached some silent corner of the campus.

Dustin and Lulu hid behind some sort of shrubbery.

Lulu wondered, “are they now going to make out and other perverse stuff?”

Dustin shrugged. “Last year, Chase hankered like an idiot after my sister. And now he is into that lass?”

Lulu nodded. “That makes no sense.”

Chase panted heavily. But instead of making out with the attractive Latina, he panted heavily and started talking. “OK, Trina, here we can talk. Nobody is going to hear us.”

Dustin snickered silently.

Lulu almost squealed for excitement. But she could suppress it in the last moment.

Trina was apparently impatient.

Chase started talking.

Listen, your task is that of making Zoey Brooks jealous.

That’s the wavy blonde with the plush squid.

Lola has already told you about her.

Lulu gasped.

Dustin sighed deeply. “What a creep!”

Trina replied,

Yes, Lola told me about Zoey, the annoying blond Mary Sue.

But making out in front of her eyes costs you extra.

Im talking one hundred bucks.

I would never do such a thing with a dweeb like you unless for business.

And you know that.

Chase sighed deeply. “OK, if it has to be.”

Dustin was really disgusted.

Lulu did not like Chase’s plans, either. “Zoey deserves better.”

Dustin nodded vigorously.

Chase continued explaining.

These are the details:

You are Rebecca, a girl from my home town.

We know us because of our mothers.

They work in the same office.

We started meeting in order to talk about this school.

He added other details.

Rebecca nodded solemnly.

Chase added instructions about the strategy.

Lola and Quinn will provoke Chase into talking to me on the campus.

I will try to tell Zoey about us the straight way.

This may fail.

I am really not good in saying simple things.

Lola has probably told you about that.

In that case, Zoey has to surprise us in flagrante delicto.

Lola and Quinn will again trick Zoey into coming to me, but in my dormitory room.

In the moment of Zoey’s arrival, we have to make out.

Then I will tell Zoey, “this is Rebecca, my steady girlfriend.”

Trina nodded solemnly. But she insisted, “OK, but, don’t forget the fees for the bonus scene!”

Chase sigheddeeply. He would probably have to work for Kazu for quite a few weeks in order to scratch the necessary bucks together.

Dustin felt his stomach cramping.

Lulu was worrid. “Dustin?” She growled a bit too loud.

Chase and Trina noticed them.

In this moment, Lulu grabbed Dustin defly and pulled him into a sort of kiss.

Both of them blushed a deep shade of crimson.

Trina shrugged. “Just two dirty little buggers in love.”

Chase did not like Trina’s way of talking about Dustin and Lulu. But he decided to ignore the incident, anyways.

Those kids were not really a danger for their plans.

Or so Rebecca and Chase concluded. They walked away.

Lulu sighed deeply. “Sorry! But it was an old espionage trick.”

Dustin was still blushing. “It worked out nicely.” He panted heavily. “I have to warn and to protect Zoey!”

Lulu nodded solemnly. She was still out of breath.

Dustin wondered, “but how to do that?” He feared, “Zoey will most likely not listen.” He was rigged and ready to protect Zoey’s honour to the death, though.

They snuck across the campus.

There were many new things to discover, such as new flavours of Blix, the most popular soft drink brand at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Then they saw Zoey leaving her dornmitory block.

Chase met Zoey over at the campus fountain.

This must have been Chase’s attempt of telling Zoey right away.

Dustin and Lulu were able to watch them from beyond a bush.

They just talked avbout their summer break adventures.

Then Zoey receive a phone call and walked away.

Chase had obviously failed.

Dustin concluded, “he will now probably resort to the alternative plan.”

Lulu fainted. “Make out with that Trina?”

Dustin nodded sadly.

The tide was high.

Dustin needed to fight like a brave knight.

Suddenly, Coco Wexler ran across the campus in panic. She was followed by some swarm of buzzing insects.

The bees or wasps were probably after some smelly can of ravioli in Coco’s hands.

The messy wench was rather going to get herself stung to death than to drop her food.

Lulu chuckled. “Serves her well!”

Dustin shrgged. He spotted Zoey again. Now he had to hurry up. He yelled at the very top of his lungs, “Zoey, don’t go to Chase’s room!”

Zoey gasped. “Dustin? What are you doing here?”

Lulu had been following Zoey. She explained the situation. “Chase tries to make you jealous with some busty Latina.”

Zoey gasped. “What?” She did not understand the situation. “Everyone thinks Chase in love with me, for two years already.” She panted. “I want to ask him now straight away.”

Dustin and Lulu explained their observations.

Zoey sighed. She was not approving of Dustin’s espionage. But she was glad about having been warned. Thus she thanked the middle school kids anyways. A few minutes later, she would find Dustin’s and Lulu’s report confirmed. She would be so disgusted by Chase’s deed, she would not talk to him for several days.

For Dustin and Lulu, the new academic year had had an exciting start. But they had to wonder about Lola’s and Quinn’s rôle in the whole filthy farce.

Chase had mentioned them as sort of collaborators.

This was especially true for Lola.

And why has Nicole Bristow not yet shown up?

There were so many questions left for Dustin and Lulu to answer.

Chapter 19. Dorm Adviser Blues

19.1. Coco gets dumped

For quite some time, Coco Wexler had been engaged to coach Carl[coach carl]
.

The latter was an excessively dumb and rude jock. He treated Coco really badly. And now he had dumped her once again.

This time, it was worse than ever before.

Carl had not deemed it necessary to talk to his woman in person. He had resorted to a message on her cellular phone’s mail box.

Coco was now close to withering away on the pavement. She was weeping in an exorbitantly awful manner.

Her tears soaked the pavement.

She wasn’t even able to eat her ravioli any more.

Lola, Quinn, and Zoey had got to do something about it.

19.2. The Plans

Dustin Broks was standing in the meadow. He held some miniature plane in his hand.

A few hours ago, it had been broken.

Fortunately Wayne Gilbert had repaired it.

Quinn Pensky would have liked to try to repair it as well. But she was nowhere near reliable.

Dustin wanted to learn to use the miniature plane in order to write “I love Lulu” into the sky. But he did not yet know how to do that.

Lulu walked up to her most beloved one. “Hi Dustin! Cool, a plane!”

Dustin shrugged. “I still haven’t got the real hang out of it, though.”

Lulu shrugged. “Coco is really crazy. And now she messes up even more.”
“Dustin nodded. ‘Zoey told me. Her fiancé …’”

Lulu told Dustin more details about the chaos seizing her dormitory block due to Coco’s depression. “The laundy doesn’t get done, the corridors don’t get cleaned, …”

Dean Rivers would sooner or later have to dismiss Coco.

And Lulu was afraid of a really stern dormitory adviser. “Ms. Burvich would be hell.”

Dustin agreed.

Lulu suggested, “Coco needs a new boyfriend.”

Dustin nodded. “Zoey says the same. But she wants one of the upper class, smart and with fine manners.”

Lulu sighed deeply. “But that isn’t Coco. She could never be herself in a society of white collar creeps and office wankers.”

Dustin nodded sadly.

Dustin and Lulu wondered about more suitable boyfriends.

At the same time, custodian Gordy crossed the campus. He was carrying a large weasel net.

Said net served now a different purpose. It was no longer needed for a weasel. Now it was used in order to catch a skunk.

More precisely, there was still that skunk on the campus, the one bothering already Logan and Michael.

Logan Reese was now no longer among the students of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But Michael Barret was still there, and he requested Gordy to hurry up. He would never forget the embarrassing encounter.

Likewise, Chase Matthews wanted Gordy to use the net in order to catch any racoons scurrying across the campus. “Those beasts may bite, hurting you badly!”

Since the start of his job at “Pacific Coast Academy”, Gordy had already been from time to time very close to catching the furry pest. But he had always failed.

Often enough, the smell of his denim overall evidenced a recently preceding encounter with the skunk.

Fortunately Quinn Pensky had recently invented a means against the penetrant stink.

Her first attempts had been a bit misguided.

Quinn had invented some deodoriser with the side effect of resolving polymeric fibres.

And this was bad for many at least partially synthetic clothes.

In other words, the chemicals removed your stench at teh cost of leaving you nude.

This was of course by no means bearable.

And Quinn’s latest improvement had finally removed those side effects.

But the skunk was still obnoxious and unpleasant.

Dustin and Lulu greeted the passing custodian. Then they looked at each other.

Dustin wondered, “do you think the same thing?”

Lulu scratched her long hair. “Maybe? What is it?”

Dustin moaned, “Gordy and Coco?”

Lulu nodded emphatically. “That would be a nice couple!”

The two of them high fived.

Of course they had to plan it carefully.

Dustin suggested, “I have to ask Gordy about his marital status.”

Lulu grinned. “That sounds like a good idea.” She sighed deeply.

Failing to do so would have had potentially detrimental consequences.

19.3. First Date

Dustin had asked Gordy.

The result was relieving.

Gordy had been trashed by his last girlfriend like a year ag, for really stupid reasons.

Lulu and Dustin had chosen “Sushi Rox” as the location of a first date.

It had been rebuilt by Mrs. Lee. For the time being, it was known as “Wok Star”, just like her regular restaurant in uptown Los Angeles.

Of course she could not be physically at both places.

Thus Kazu had been left in his position as a chef.

But this was only a temporary solution.

In addition, Kazu was formally controlled by Daisy Lee.

The daughter of the big boss was now a student at “Pacific Coast Academy”. She was still hankering after Dustin, and she was very pushy.

Dustin and Lulu were really trying to avoid Daisy.

But Coco was addicted to food at Sushi Rox, or Wok Star, whatever.

Fortunately, Evelyn Kwong was now a student at “Pacific Coast Academy” as well and able to control Daisy to some degree. She had obtained a scholar ship after her great years at “James K. Polk”.

And this was Dustin’s and Lulu’s only chance.

Evelyn was gladly going to allow Dustin and Lulu to use the restaurant for matchmaking.

Dustin had already organised some music.

The Obo twins[obo twins]
were two former students at “James K. Polk”. Just as suggested by their names, they mastered the oboe very well.

For that avail, Lulu and Dustin had hired them in order to make music for the dinner. They were following a recommendation by Evelyn Kwong.

Dustin instructed the twins.

Coco always talks nonsense.

Gordy does the same.

Whenever either of them starts talking too much …

You better play something all the time. But you will need to catch some breath inbetween.

The Obo twins nodded solemnly. They did not really care. They had recently been invited to a dinner with Drake Parker.

That was uttermost exciting for them.

Nothing else mattered.

Ashley Blake dragged somewhat reluctant Coco Wexler into the restaurant.

Gordy had been lured hereto by Evelyn. He believed in traces of the skunk to be found in the restaurant. He arrived thusly with his denim overall and his skunk net. He was now totally surprised by the real significance of his presence.

Coco and Gordy glared at each other.

Fortunately, the Obo twins were real masters of their instruments. They started finally playing Maurice Ravel’s Boléro.

This seductive music went trembling through the ground.

Gordy stood up and started sweeping Coco acros sthe dancing floor, her weight notwithstanding.

In this moment, Mrs. Lee stumbled in. She was equally seized by the atmosphere and started grabbing Kazu for the same dance.

The Oboe twins kept on playing.

Evelyn Kwomg smirked. She would soon admit to having planned this. She wanted to match her aunt with Kazu in order to allow him to continue at “Sushi Rox” as a family member, and not as a slave worker.

Suddenly the skunk scurried across the restaurant.

Gordy noticed it from the corner of his eyes. But he didn’t care.

Coco was now the most important thing for Gordy, during this evening and for the rest of his life.

Dustin and Lulu were grinning triumphantly.

Chapter 20. Knocking Out

20.1. Silver Hammers

The society of the “Silver Hammers” was an “elitary” club, or a “Brotherhood” exclusively active at high schools and colleges of coastal southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego. It was not unfrequently and not without good any good reason compared to networks like the “Lions” or the “Rotarians”.

Their area of activity included in particular the metropolitan complex of larger Los Angeles and Hollywood.

Members recruited as high school kids could look forward to a more or less established continuity into college, university, and the corporal world of that region, and that could as well mean: around the whole world, given the global significance of Hollywood and other economic heavy weights based in Los Angeles.

Many politicians, scientists, artists, bankers, industrial CEOs, and on and on and on it goes, got their career accelerated and streamlined through their former membership in the “Silver Hammer Society”.

Being a hammer was thus a pwerful protection for the fledgling career of a high school student from that region.

Needless to say, the snobbish and exclusive club of the “Silver Hammers” was also heavily represented at California’s most exclusive boarding school, viz. “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Consequently, a huge amount of the students of this prep school aimed for membership in the society of the “Silver Hammers”.

There had not yet been recruited any girls for the local branch during the last two years.

The reason for this had been the lack of known girls among the high school kids at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But this reason was no longer a valid one.

Girls were no longer a stunning minority. And, even more, they had already made it into many leading positions and important activities of the school.

There was now no reason left for excluding girls from the ranks of this outstanding society.

These days, the elders of the society stalked the campus. They were wilding silbver hammers for the purpose of knocking lightly any potential new member, such as Zoey Brooks, Lola Martinez, Michael Barret, Chase Matthews, and many other sophomores.

However, Chase had decided to reject the membership. “Elitary clubs are downright stupid.”

20.2. Sarah Kyla

Dustin and Lulu were of course still too young for the society of the silver hammers. But they were not sure about their reason of being, anyways.

Lulu reported, “according to Ryan, they are Russian spies.”

Dustin twitched.

Thinking closer, it made a lot of sense.

A new girl was looking for its way around the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Dustin and Lulu were kind enough to help her. “The cafeteria is a few hundred yards down there, past the administration building.”

The stranger introduced herself as Sarah. She thanked and walked on.

Suddenly, Quinn Pensky stormed and assaulted Lulu and Dustin. “Do not even dare to talk to Sarah!”

Dustin and Lulu looked puzzled.

Dustin asked “who is she?”

Quinn gasped. “Dunno, I have never met or seen her before.”

This was not credible, of course.

Lulu wondered, “is she a Russian spy?”

Dustin shivered.

Quinn choked. “Oh yeah, you have got it.” She whispered, “she is the most dangerous Russian spy ever!”

Lulu and Dustin were consternated.

20.3. Postulant Meeting

The elders of the hammers had gathered the new postulants in some dark hall.

Those fresh students were blindfolded and stuff.

But Wayne Gilbert had hidden a little microchip in Michael’s suit.

This allowed Lulu and Dustin to listen to the union.

An annoying sound of a triangle was heard.

Lulu knew a guy at her school with the ability to play the triangle a lot betetr.

His name was Mikey Jay.

According to the elders, the postulants were to submit themselves to slave services to the elder as a test.

Zoey would feed those guys.

Lola would haveto shave them.

Michael was forced to take care of their teeth.

Dustin and Lulu shuddered for disgust. “The Silver hammers are Russian spies!”

20.4. Quinn’s Secret

Dustin and Lulu kept on snooping the new girl from afar.

According to Dustin’s observation, Sarah got very well along with Ashley Blake.

Lulu shrieked and gasped. “Ashley must be a Russian spy , too!”

Dustin was shocked. “I should always have seen that coming.”

Lulu nodded sadly.

Suddenly, they felt their necks grabbed from behind. Dustin and Lulu squealed like idiots. Then they were thrown across the floor.

That hurt.

Sarah faced them. She threatened them with martial moves. “What are you doing here?”

Lulu and Dustin stammered helplessly.

Ashley walked up to them. “Hey, Sarah! Those are no stalkers, they are just harmless fools.” She grinned.

Dustin and Lulu looked dumbfounded.

Lulu wondered, “hey, Ashley! This girl is a Russian spy!”

Sarah stuffed Lulu’s mouth with a sock.

Ashley shook her head. “Sarah is my body guard, and certainly not a Russian spy, you dummies.” She started rolling on the floor, laughing herself into oblivion.

Dustin did not understand anything. He just kept on trembling.

Ashley explained, “Vince had hitherto been my bodyguard. But he is too busy with football now. He can’t play football, learn for the written tests, be my body guard and so on at the same time.” She had talked her brother into taking an outtime before having to resort to cheating in tests.

Lulu and Dustin sighed. “Makes sense?”

Ashley nodded. “Sarah is young enough to pass as a high school kid. She is perfect as a body guard for school kids.”

Dustin and Lulu understood that.

Sarah shrugged. “OK! I have found the video showing Quinn Pensky as a pageant girl from 1996.”

Dustin and Lulu gasped. “Quinn? Pageant girl?”

Ashley snickered. “Cool!”

Dustin and Lulu had got a hard time believing it. They decided to leave Quinn in peace.

20.5. No New Hammers

Unfortunately there had been no way to spy on the next session of the hammers.

The postulants had all gone through one week of humiliations. But they had all deemed the membership worth all the troubles. Alas, the morning after the meeting. none of them had been finally accepted, and they were damn proud of it. They had not been agreeing with some of the rules of the club.

What had been going on?

Zoey, Michael, and Lola did not really want to talk about it.

Dustin and Lulu were still clueless. But they would find out. Or so they swore.

20.6. Quinn’s Crisis

Sarah told Chase and Mark about Quinn’s history as a pageant girl.

Quinn was now consternated.

It appeared very much embarrassing for the nerd girl.

Neither Chase nor Michael or Lola or Zoey saw anything wrong with that.

Mark was not disgusted by Quinn’s past, either. He even seemed to lie it and commanded Quinn to perform her good old majorette dance for him.

Quinn sighed and followed the orders. But why did she still have that equipment on her, such as the hoops and the whirling tapes?

This was really strange for a girl absolutely embarrassed by her past as a majorette.

Dustin and Lulu were trying hard to see some sense in that.

Chapter 21. Make Michael Pay

21.1. Perverted Crush

Michael Barret was stuck in some brainlessly perverse crush on future pop star Lisa Perkins. And he had still not broken with his former relationships, Vanessa[vanessa]
and Farfalla[farfalla], that falsely so called little sister of aforementioned Olivary Biallo alias Jerome Crony.

And Lisa Perkins would have thusly been another adulterous relationship of Michael Barret.

Michael Barret was thus about turning into a worse jerk than even Logan Reese.

Someone had to stop his jypocritic demeanour.

Unfortunately, Zoey Brooks was even promoting Michael’s adulterous perversity. She wanted him to sing at Open Mic Night right in front of first-row Lisa Perkins, giving him thusly the occasion of impressing her deeply.

Lulu and Dustin needed to find a way to prevent this catastrophe. They had not got any idea better than making Farfalla and Vanessa show up during that even.

21.2. The Mean Cheater

Open Mic Might was there.

Dustin and Lulu were not allowed to watch the whole of it.

Their curfew was too early.

But with Wayne’s help. they were able to snoop on the event.

Mrs. Lee was the main sponsor of the event. She also started moderating it.

Her first task was that of announcing Michael Barret and his parody of some currently popular rock songs.

Michael Barret was totally excited.

His nervosity increased when seeing Lisa in the front row.

His stomach could not handle the strain.

Michael puked rudely onto Lisa’s shoes. And he was too embarrassed to excuse himself.

Lisa had to get her stuff cleaned.

Vanessa and Farfalla were equally shocked. They had never seen Michael puke on a girl’s shoes. They walked up to Lisa in order to help her. The girls were now finally up to joining forces and make Michael Barret pay deerly for his abominable deed.

Michael Barret was abl;e to fiool and cheat on the girls one by one. But he would be powerless against a whole troop of armed force of theirs.

Dustin and Lulu laughed their hindsides off when watching the scene.

21.3. Wrestling Fever

Football was not the only typical jocks’ sport popular at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

There was also a wrestling team.

Its coach was a complete idiot, though, just like all typical wrestlers.

Even his name was unknown.

Lulu supposed him to be a Russian spy.

This year, “Pacific Coast Academy” was even hosting a really great wrestling event, viz. the regionals of Californian middle and high school wrestling teams.

The excitement was increasing more and more.

21.4. Zoey In The Wrestling Team

Even Zoey Brooks was involved.

This was not quite voluntary.

Zoey had accidentally intervened in a dirty fight between two middle school kids, Lulu’s dumb comrades. She was able to stop the fight.

The wrestling coach happened to see this and talked her into joining the wrestling team.

21.5. Regionals

21.5.1. Anticipation

The day of the regionals was not ahead.

Zoey had worked out hard. She was supposed to fight Chuck Javers[chuck javers]
, some hitherto invincible wrestling tank.

Chuck was a really tough guy without a trace of polished manners. He sometimes beat up referees and reporters.

According to Dustin, chief reporter Jeremiah Trottman would have deserved getting beaten up badly.

But Dustin did not want Zoey to get hurt badly.

21.5.2. The fights

The arena was focussed by the news channel of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Jeremiah Trottman’s assistant had been brutally kidnapped by Quinn Pensky.

This way, Lola Martinez could grab the position of a co-commentator. She did not like wrestling and the stench of sweating athletes. But she loved being seen on the TV channel.

Lola’s father, Juan Martinez[juan], was a coach for martial arts. He coached especially Lola’s younger alike looking sister Salvia alias Shelby Marx[shelby marx].

The latter was not keen on her Latina heritage and had chosen an English name in order to fool the vulgar mass of sadistical onlookers. She even just called her dad “coach Juan”.

Really, Lola was totally incompetent for her task. She only bathered crappy nonsense.

Zoey was now ready for her first fight.

But the opponent withdrew. That disgustingly perverse jerk refused to fight against girls.

Thus Zoey made it automatically into the next turn.

Chuck Javers won his first fight pretty fast.

The second turn saw the same picture.

And on and on and on it went.

The final match for the light weight class was thus that of Zoey Brooks against Chuck Javers.

Suddenly the megaphone announced “Zoey Brooks is injured and gets replaced with Scott Ridgemond[scott ridgemond]
.”

This was the coach’s “strategy”.

A fresh Scott Ridgemond could face Chuck much easier than an exhausted one.

Sending in Zoey against the jerks refusing to battle girls was nothing but a scam.

Unlike most professional, wrestlers, Chuck was not an abominable jerk.

But Zoey showed no trace of an injury. She went to the judges in order to complain.

Dustin squealed, “come on, Zoey, you must be injured.” He stear feared Zoey to get torn into smithereens by Chuck Javers.

Zoey grunted at her brother. “What? No way!”

Dustin told Ashley, “can’t you set Sarah Kyla up there in order to stop Javers?”

Ashley Blake was totally perplexed. She was there in order to watch her brother’s next wrestling match.

It was Vince’s first occasion after his aforementioned problems rto show his real value.

Sarah Kyla was bodyguarding Ashley.

The little diva did not want to give away her watch dog, though. But she was now thinking, “Chuck can’t touch me, the big little diva!” She walked into Chuck Javers’s path in order to talk him into leaving the campus.

Lulua and Dustin glared consternated. “That is insane!”

And Chuck faced the Hollywood celebrity. Really, he wwas not up to pulling punches. He was not going to show any respect towards frail Ashley Blake. He was getting ready to fling the dive into the next century.

But down from the chandelier came Sarah Kyla. She blocked Chuck Javers deftly with her limbs.

The wrestling ox was consternated.

Sarah was another wight class.

But Chuck was now too afraid of facing Zoey Brooks. He stood up and ran away from the arena.

The judge had to disqualify him.

This way, Zoey was declared the winner of the whole contest, without having touched any opponent at all.

Ashley grinned mischievously. “We’ve socked it to Javers!”

Dustin chuckled. “Cool!”

Lulu cheered for forevermore victorious Zoey Brooks.

Now Chuck Javers was supposed to be in an excessively stimky mood.

Somehow, Zoey could not enjoy her cheap victory. She had worked ahard and was now getting away with doing nothing? Oh well, she was Zoey Brooks, the professional Mary Sue.

Michael cheered for Zoey, too. He was still not over the disastrous Open Mic Night, though.

Suddenly, Firewire showed up. “Lisa Perkins has got a little difference of opinuions with Chuck Javers, out on the parking lot.”

Michael gasped. The jerk knew about Chuck’s refusal to show any mercy towards girls. He paced out in order to save Michael’s life.

21.5.3. Everything Damaged

Lisa, Vanessa, and Farfalla giggled. They had set up that trap for Michael.

The jerk had fallen head over heels for the trick. He had messed with Chuck Javers and could not stand a chance against the tank from another star.

Michael was now all bruised and strained. And he was no longer able to have kids on his own.

The girls laughed. “He has so deserved it.”

Chapter 22. Rain Storm[rain storm]

22.1. Evil Vendor Machine

Lola Martinez loved candy snacks such as fruit doodle cakes.

Those were sold in vendor machines.

Those devices were really evil.

But Dean Rivers seemed to earn insane amounts of bucks with them. Thus he refused to cancel stupid contracts with the upstream candy providers.

Vice Principal Thatcher[vice principal thatcher] was by no means better.

Lauren deemed this totally fishy. “One of them must be a Russian spy!”

Dustin choked hard. “Rivers and Thatcher … as Russian spies?” But he could not conradict.

Thatcher had already admonished Dustin several times for minor offenses on the campus such as swimming in the fountain.

Zoey had hitherto been able to fix it. But she would not be around forever.

Lauren shivered dramatically.

Lola was now ready to purchase a raspberry doodle cake. She inserted the necessary buck into the slot and pushed the buttons.

But nothing came out.

The buck was gone.

And Lola was bitterly disappointed, causing her to punch the machine. But she did not have the muscles of her little sister Shelby. Now she felt clearly cheated for the fruits of her efforts. She was rightfully angry.

Along came Quinn Pensky. “Punching is useless. ” She took elan with her right foot. “You need to kick it.” Alas, she just squeezed her sixth toe.

And that hurt.

Quinn was very proud of her extra toe.

Mr. Thatcher came along and admonished teh girls severely.

Any complaints about the machine had to be filed in teh admin office.

After several months of examination there would be a dim chance of getting your bucks back.

Thatcher disappeared, leaving despair and dismay with teh teenage girls.

Dustin and Lulu came along.

Lola explained the sitiation in a desperate manner.

Dustin wondered, “maybe I can stick my arm into it and …”

Lulu sighed. “In Ryan’s espionage movie, they always have to push the correct digits, making the whole machine falls apart.”

Dustin grinned. “That sounds cool!”

Lulu chuckled. “But which number?”

Dustin looked at Lola.

The Hollywood diva grunted, “hey! You are the number freaks!”

Dustin and Lulu sighed deeply.

That was so true.

They tried the birthday date of Dean Rivers and that of his evil wife.

None of those worked.

Lulu suggested, “let’s prove our hypothesis of Dean Rivers or Thatcher being Russian spies.”

Dustin smiled. “Oh yeah! The CIA will award us with free doodle cakes.”

Lola grinned cheerfully.

22.2. Chase’s Birthday Ahead

Another birthday was just around the corner, viz. that of Chase Bartholomew Matthews.

Chase shared his birthday with his favourite grandma. Unfortunately he was just excessively busy with some assignment, taking away almost all of his excitement for the birthday.

Of course their were many tears inbetween.

It just happened to be the same day of the year.

His pals wanted to organise a pyjama party.

Well, Michael Barret would have preferred a beach party with girls in bikinis. But he was rebuked severely by Zoey Brooks.

The weather reported sounded more favourable for a beach party.

According to weather reporter Walter Nichols, hot sunny weather was expected for the next five days.

Middle school kids like Dustin and Lauren could not be invited, due to the curfew stuff.

Zoey even wanted to get Chase’s grandma to show up at the birthday.

Dustin and Lulu decided to spend their time with snooping Dean Rivers and Mr. Thatcher, trying to prove them as Russian spies.

Wayne had provided them with the necessary equipment.

22.3. Disappointment

The birthday was starting to get awry.

First, Chase’s grandma had to cancel her visit due to a flu.

Second, the weather perporter had been awfully wrong.

The kids should better have stuck to the alternative report by some Bruce Windchill[bruce windchill], the best styled weather frog of California ever.

But things would get worse.

22.4. Sad songs say so much[sad songs]

Quinn Pensky showed up at the party with some illuminated pyjama.

This was the beginning of a new series of fashion created by Zoey Brooks and distributed by “Mad Style”.

The absolute bestsellers would be illuminated multi coloured socks.

Especially one Spencer Shay from Seattle would be addicted to those.

But Zoey and Quinn could not yet imagine reaping the great and well deserved rewards for this summit of their creative efforts.

Any blossoming hopes were all of a sudden suffocated by some official messenger sent by Dean Rivers for Chase Matthews.

According to these news, Chase’s grandma had just died.

Chase burst into tears like a detonating nuclear bomb. He ran away like a fury, not talking to anyone.

22.5. Fake Alert

Alas, the very next day, Chase phoned his mom at the East coast.

The outcome was stunning.

Chase’s grandmother was sick, but she was definitely alive.

What had been going on?

Dustin and Quinn listened to the records from the administration office.

There had been a conversation between Dean Rivers and a teenage woman.

Lola Martinez had not got any troubles identifying the voice as belonging to her aforementioned cousin Trina Vega alias Rebecca.

The latter appears to have blackmailed the headmaster into sending the faked message.

The conversation did not reveil the reason.

But Zoey decided to take the records and show them to Garth Burman[garth burman].

This was the only one in the hierarchy of “Pacific Coast Academy” deemed reliable beyond any doubt.

Lulu grunted. “I knew it!”

Zoey asked, “what did you know?”

Dustin replied for his beloved one. “Dean Rivers is a Russian spy!”

Zoey chuckled. “Whatever scandal it is, Burman will have to do something about it.”

Trina Vega must have committed this fraud in order to get back at Chase for not having paid the previously agreed ampunt of bucks.

Chase was still consternated. But he was going to learn from his grie and write wonderful poems and plays about it, long with his pal Michael.

22.6. Rivers gets fired

Garth Burman was a bit consternated by the students’s espionage on Dean Rivers. But he could not really disapprove of it, given the result.

Dean Rivers and his deputy Thatcher had been making illegal money with the vendor machines by manipulating the codes into failing a certain amount of time.

This greedy fraud was not acceptable.

Garth Burman got the perverts fired on site.

Lola got a free doodle cakes for a whole week.

Dustin and Lulu got a yet bigger and equally well deserved award for getting the discovery of the scandal started, a new tandem bicycle with cross country and speed modes.

Chapter 23. Deadly Bacteria

23.1. Screaming

Overly ambitious starlets Lola Martinez and Ashley Blake were trying out for new rôles in a Hollywood movie.

These tasks involved a lot of screaming.

And they had to practise for the audition.

The audible consequences were horrible.

Lauren and Dustin fell quite a few times for Ashley’s bone shattering squeals.

At the occasion of one of Lola’s screm, a hitherto unknown boy rushed in order to “help” Lola and Zoey.

And then Zoey and the stranger, named Danny[danny]
, agreed on a cinema date, tonight at seven o’ clock.

23.2. Jealous Quinn

The geek queen was busy recording her intermediate results of her research concerning some new blend of bacteria. Walking the dormitory aisle, she noticed Mark del Figgalo and a fairly new girl named Maria Misa[maria misa] making out.

Well, it was not quite like that.

But Quinn feared the worst. She was totaly jealous of Maria and needed to find a way to separate her from Mark.

But the bacteria required more attention. They would serve for the purpose of increasing the feryility of the soil and accelerating the growth of plants.

23.3. Spilled

Quinn was talking about the problem with Lola and Zoey.

The shallow girls were not taking Quinn serious and tried in vain to calm her down.

Quinn was careless. By accident, she tilted one of her test tubes, spilling its content, a tribe of hitherto unknown bacteria.

It was immediately necessary to isolate “101 Brenner Hall”.

Quinn informed the office fore biological hazards.

The students had to leave the hall on site.

Only Quinn, Lola, and Zoey had to stay. They were already contaminated.

The bio hazard teamhad to circumspect the situation and judge the danger of Quinn’s new bacteria.

Until a negative result, the three girls would be quarantined.

Unfortunately, Zoey was now most likely to miss out on her cinema date. But she had to make Danny know about this somehow.

Quinn could not spy Mark and Maria directly.

Lola decided to keep on practising screams, thusly horrifying the other girls.

23.4. Agent 101

Dustin picked up his cellular phone.

It was Quinn Pensky. She ordered him to follow Mark and Maria across the campus and snoop them carefully.

Lulu sighed.

And there was another task.

Right before seven o’clock, Dustin would have to tell Danny about Zoey’s situation, preventing the blond Mary Sue from coming to the agreed dinner date.

Dustin could impossibly do both things at the same time.

Thus Dustin and Lulu decided to split around half past six.

There was still one problem.

Neither Dustin nor Lulu knew that new guy Danny.

According to Zoey, Danny was incredibly cute.

And that was the only hint.

Granted, this was not much at all.

Lulu gasped. “What if Danny is a Russian spy?”

Dustin shivered. He could not allow for his sister dating a Russianspy. He had already watched several of Ryan Laserbeam’s favourite espionage movies with Lulu.

And Russian spies used to seduce American girls and kill them afterwards.

The situation was serious enough to warrant splitting right now.

Dustin kept on snooping Maria Misa and Mark del Figgalo.

At the same time, Lulu would try to find the evil Russian spy, Danny.

23.5. In The Park

Dustin was following Mark and Maria all ove rthe campus part.

His cellular phone was on.

This allowed him to report back to Quinn any time.

Dustin stated, “Maria is staring dreamily deep into Mark’s face.”

Quinn growled, “oh. I so knew it!” She was totally angry.

Zoey had got a hard time calming her down.

Lola screamed again. This time, she had spotted Quinn’s bird spider, Herman.

It was thus not a deliberate scream for the purpose of practising.

Quinn told Dustin to keep on spying.

The little freak had to be very careful.

Mark and Maria agreed on having dinner at “Wok Star” later on.

23.6. Danny

Unfortunately,, the name “Danny” was not exactly rare on the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

This did not make Lulu’s task esy in ant sense.

Fortunately, after some dozen of movies about Russian spies, Lulu appeared to have a cquainted a feeling for the typical looks of one.

There was a guy named Dennifer[dennifer]
.

Lulu had never heard that name before.

He was a tall blond rake of the most seductive sort ever.

This was so typical for a Russian spy.

And “Dennifer” may be easily nicked to “Danny”.

For Lulu, this guy was the most urgently suspicious person.

A date of Dennifer and Zoey would have been a catastrophe.

And then Dennifer started hitting on another girl, and precisely Stacey Dillsen.

The latter was a sophomore in her first year at “Pacific Coast Academy”. She was talking in a slurred manner, and she was obsessed with building things from cotton swabs and white clue.

No hot boy would have dated her voluntarily.

Thence the decision was clear.

Dennifer could not be anything but a Russian spy.

Lulu had to protect Zoey and save Stacey. She could not do it alone. She needed the help of Sarah Kyla. Panting heavily, she picked up her cellular phone and started typing the digits of Ashley Blake’s number.

The first thing to hear was an insane scream.

Fortunately this was just practice.

Then Lulu started begging.

Ashley grunted, “but this will cost you!”

Lulu was already busy tutoring Vince in mathematics and in English. She was now probably forced to add history and social sciences. But she accepted. And just to be sure, she also called Evelyn Kwong for help.

Stacey and Dennifer were also going to cinema.

How was the Casanova going to do that?

Was it really possible to date two girls the same night in the same cinema without getting them to know from each other?

Finally, Lulu’s reinforcements arrived.

Ashley was there as well.

Kyla was already tired of the screaming practice. She always had to listen to it. In addition, due to Quinn’s mishap, she was locked out from her own dormitory room.

This forced her to look forward to spending the night in a room with Ashley Blake and be exposed to her squeals until dawn.

But now Ashley’s practice was all of a sudden welcome.

Sarah sent her straight up to Dennifer and Stacey.

Ashley Blake squealed at the very top of her lungs.

Glass was bursting into smithereens.

Sarah somersaulted the tall blond rake and pinned him to the floor. “The game is over, Dennifer!”

“Or should I say … Zippy Brewster[zippy brewster]?” added Evelyn Kwong.

Stacey was consternated. She turned dizzy and slumped silently to the floor.

Lulu tried clumsily to revive her.

Ashley claimed to have already seen him, as well.

Accidentally bypassing Melanie Puckett remarked, “this is Jake Crendel[jake crendel] from Seattle.” She was totally pale. She knew Jake alias Dennifer from her old school, “Ridgeway”. He was a reckless womaniser of the worst sort.

Only a Russian spy could have that many names.

The tall blond rake was also known as James Garrett.

But now his game was over.

Sarah comforted Stacey. “The bleeding sucker has got even more girls than names.”

Stacey sobbed sadly.

Sarah now called officer Vega[1] in order to get the marriage cheater arrested.

Lulu sighed deeply. She was proud of having completed her mission.

Alas, there was a little problem.

Dennifer was not the Danny appointed with Zoey Brooks.

23.7. Dinner At Wok Star

Dustin had snuck into the resyaurant before Mark del Figgalo and Maria Misa. He asked Mrs. Lee and Daisy for help.

Unfortunately, Daisy was hardly going to help him for naught.

Dustin announced, “I won’t kiss you. I won’t wipe yopur butt, either.” He gruntes silently, “it stinks!”

Daisy was upset.

Mrs. lee decided, “we will help you.” She sighed. “But you have to tutor Daisy in Math and English.”

Dustin sighed deeply. “OK!”

maria and Mark hat taken their seats.

The girl kept on staring deep into Mark’s face.

That was too much.

Daisy took picture of this with her digital cam.

Dustin told her to send them straight to Quinn.

Maria was excluded from her own dormitory room due to the qurantine.

Mark offered her generously to host her in his room during the night.

That was the last straw to break the elephant’s back.

Dustin, dressed as a waiter, recorded this and sent it straight to Quinn Pensky.

Now it was enough of a proof.

Mark was cheating on Quinn.

The geek Quinn dumped the fool on site. Too bad she could not leave her room. Otherwise she would have showed up and stuck Mark face down into the kettle with wantan soup.

23.8. The Next Morning

The fertiliser bacteria was deemed harmless.

Quinn was now able to start her tests with some real soil. But she was in a stinky mood, ready to kill Mark and Maria.

The latter showed Quinn a picture of Mark she was working on. She hoped to be able to fool Quinn into believing in this being planned as a surprise gift.

But Dustin’s report was overwhelming.

It was over between Mark and Quinn.

This was a good thing.

The nerd girl could now dedicate herself more to the research of the new bio fertiliser.

Likewise, the actual Danny as in Zoeyt’s date was in a stinky mood. He did not believe in Zoey’s excuse involving the quarantine.

But maybe he was a Russian spy as well?

Dustin and Lulu would not give up.

Indeed, Sarah Kyla had to punch Danny’s lights out just two day’s later.

Danny had been paid by Mr. Hawk[mr hawk]
, a record producer, for a planned attempt upon the life of Lisa Perkins. He had used Zoey in order to sneak closer to that victim, a friend of Zoey Brooks.

Lisa was working for Hawk’s arch enemy Gustavo Rocque.

Chapter 24. Finale

24.1. In Our Victory

Three years ago, Dustin and Lulu had been in Mr. Takato’s summer camp about advanced geometry.

And this year, it was paying off.

The team of “Pacific Coast Academy” participated successfully in the nationals.

And this was totally due to the continued common efforts of Dustin Brooks and Lauren Johnson.

Wayne Gilbert and Evelyn Kwong were in the same team as well.

No other team could withstand their smartness.

During the Californian finals, they had already defeated the team of “James K. Polk” around Albert Wormenheimer and Simon Nelson Cooke.

And all the teams from outside California sucked even a trifle more.

This was especially true for the team from “Ridgeway”, a school in Seattle, and not just some arbitrary school, but the school of aforementioned Samantha Puckett.

There was a certain Fredward Benson, a guy keeping on hitting perversely on his fellow student Carlotta Shay. He had thusly wasted his time of this fraud instead of learning about advanced tensor geometry.

Little wonder a team with such a scary creep was totally easy to defeat by the dauntless smarties from “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Thus Dustin and Lulu, not intimidated by their possible reactons, had finally made it shine.[made it shine]

24.2. Return Of The Champions

The victorious geometry team was now expected back at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Unfortunately, the school had not yet got a decent band.

Quinn Pensky, for example, was just a poor excuse of a trombone player.

Michael Barret was a catastrophe of a flautist.

There was only a decent violencellist[violoncellist at pca] and a violinist[violinist at pca] of some sorts.

For that avail, they needed to hire a few musicians from other Californian schools.

One of them was Ashley Blake’s aforementioned friend Megan Parker, an excruciatingly virtuous oboe player from San Diego.

The whole choir and orchestra was conducted by Mr. Combover from Santa Clarita.

The suspense increased.

Finally, the cab with the four winners halted at the drop site.

Mrs. Lee, Daisy, and Kazu had prepared a red carpet for the winners’ team.

The music started playing, viz. the triumphal march from Giuseppe Verdi’s great opera Aida.

Gloria alla PCA
A Garth Burman
Che ormai ci protegge
Al Dean che il campo regge
Inni festosi alziam
Gloria al Dean.

S’intrecci il loto al lauro
Sul crin dei vincitori
Nembo gentil’ di fiori
Stenda dalle arme un vel’.

Danziam’ ragazze di PCA
Le me mistiche carole
Come d’intprno al sole
Danzano gli astri in ciel’.[aida lyrics]

Dustin and Lulu were thorougly surprised.

Wayne and Evelyn just cackled.

But there was one logical gap.

The song mentioned the dean of “Pacific Coast Academy” in several places.

Alas, Dean Rivers had recently been fired.

And Garth Burman had not yet insitituted an new one.

The orchestra continued.

Lulu and Dustin smiled when marching down the long campus aisle. They had never anticipated such a huge ado about their persons. They were just members of the geometry club, and not of the football team.

Megan was finally done with her oboe performance. She grinned and whispered a few words into Ashley’s ears.

Ashley just snickered. “I’ve always noticed soething special between Lulu and Dustin.”

Garth Burman received the winners with a long speech. “Finally, let me use this ceremony in order to introduce a new dean.”

Many students had obviously anticipated such a thing.

This was the best moment for this.

Starting with next fall, Principal Ruckman of Lulu’s old school in New York City would be the new dean at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Lulu was flabbergasted.

Even more, her friends Ryan Laserbeam and True Jackson would also join this illustrous school.

Lulu beamed like some thousand suns and started bouncing around in an excruciatingly cheerful manner.

24.3. Mr. Takato

As said, Mr. Takato, their former teacher at “Camp Geo”, had claimed to be a teacher here at “Pacific Coast Academy”.

But Dustin Brooks had never come to see him here on the campus.

The same was also valid for Lulu, or Wayne or Evelyn for that matter.

Dystin had guessed him to be a relative of Kazu or so.

But the latter had never heard anything about him.

There was not even a trace of Mr. Takato in the year books of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

This had always appeared fishy.

Needless to say, Dustin and Lulu had already started fancying the senile so-called math teacher as a Russian spy.

But his lessons had been very helpful, anyways.

They owed their whole victory at this year’s nationals to mystery man Mr. Takato.

There must have been a deeper secret.

The moon was now on its bright sight.

It was a tenderly warm late spring night on the campus of “Pacific Coast Academy”.

Dustin and Lulu strolled past the campus fountain illuminated by the plae moon light.

Suddenly, an elderly Japanese man stood in the middle of the fountain, against the rules of “Pacific Coast Academy”. He grinned. “Sayonara!”

Dustin and Lulu had not ben thinking about Mr. Takato in quite some time. But now they gasped and growled unison, “Mr. Takato?”

The old man bowed deeply.

Dustin and Lulu were still consternated. “You really exist?”

Mr. Takato grinned. “What is existence?”

Dustin and Lulu had learnt the dependence of existence in the realmns of geometry on the acceptance of axioms.

Maybe the question of Takato’s existence could not really be answered in an objective manner, either?

In any case, the soirit of Mr.Takato would forever live in the hearts of Dustin Brooks and Lauren Johnson, regardless of the opinion of brainless fools like Lisa Perkins, Lola Martinez, and other potential doubters of the eternal truth.

[made it shine] allusion to Make It Shine, a third party owned song by Victoria Justice

[violoncellist at pca] cf. Zoey 101 : Hot Dean

[violinist at pca] cf. Zoey 101 : The Radio

[aida lyrics] Hail the pca, our protector Garth Burman, and the Dean ruling over the campus! Hail the dean!

Let lotus and laurel be worked into a winners’ crown. Let a gentle cloud of flowers extend a veil from the weapons.

PCA girls, lets’s daance mystic carols, just as the stars up in the sky dance around the sun.
